I bought a pair of Pekins last fall that were 2011 hatch. The drake was gimpy. I didn't notice it until we were loading the birds.
I got another drake from my sister, as I wasn't sure this fellow could/would breed. Well, I've never seen him do the deed, although this spring he decided to keep the younger drake away from "his" duck. Still didn't see him breed, so OFF with his head!
I dry plucked him for the feathers; then skinned him and have him in the crock pot.
I have a LOT of Pekin eggs in the incubator, so what is your favorite recipe for the next time? I plan on harvesting the new ducks when they are 12 weeks old, so that I can harvest the feathers also.
