Your First Poultry

I had five chicks as my first poultry when I was around 7, I think. The first poultry that I had as my own were two ducks I got last year.

Road Island Reds,, both meat and egg production, a straight run, halfsies.. was in my thirties with family of seven.. Pushing seventy.. and still at it, alone.. Them chickens lay so many eggs.. Fridge full and buckets on the floor.. Started processing them yesterday for the freeze dryer.. and yes I do the float test.. Will continue today.. May have too many and need do a third. Especially as the chickees are up to a dozen per day.. Soon up to thirty a day.. What was I thinking, strike that. I wasn't.. Put more than ten dozen in there this morning.. Powdered eggs, yum!.. (facetiously) To be fair freeze dried is like fresh, just a tinge off.. but they'll be here when I am not. Some family member with brains (good portion) and or some scrounger of the Apocalypse Mad Max scenario will be happy. I won't be here.. I'm outta here!
