Your on a Chicken Forum?!!!?!!!?

So last night step son and his girlfriend come over for dinner. They saw me working on the incubator and were asking all sorts of questions about how it worked and I explained it. We then went out to the shop to look at the new babies, and one of the silkie's wasn't doing so well. My SS said, that's the one I dropped in the water when they first came in, when we were dipping their beaks. I said it's probably going to die, but that's ok, it happens, he asked why and I explained it probably inhaled some water and he felt bad. Then I started catching the little one's and cleaning their bottoms. I explained pasty butt...

So SS's girlfriend looks over at me and says, "how do you know all this stuff"....

I said well, I'm on a chicken forum, and they helped me learn it all. SS looks shocked...

and said, a chicken form???? I was like, yeah, duh...he said I guess they have forum for everything, but chickens??? I laughed...

Sad part is little chickie died shortly after....now he knows to be very, very gentle when dipping their beaks.......

I haven't told my friends, but I think my husband has finally come to terms with the fact that I spend so much time here!

BTW, I keep wondering what my classmates from highschool would think if they knew about my dirty little habit.

People ask me that too - "how do you know so much about chickens if you've never had them before?" It's true, everything I know I learned from this forum. I'm eternally grateful.

Also, even though I haven't had anything bad happen to my girls, knowing what CAN happen makes me ever more grateful for their health and the fact that I have them at all.

Come to think of it, when I told DB about the 'chicken forum' he got a funny little smirk on his face! hee hee. He seems to trust the advice I get though, so he must be impressed!

I hate the computer and everything to do with it, so it is always a big surprise to people who know me that I belong to this forum.
Just tell your friends that your byc habit means that they no longer have to listen to your tales of incubating, hatching, feeding, illnesses, or the remarkable and funny things your hens have done - we will listen and actually enjoy the stories!

Not to mention, there are FAR more bizarre things one could be doing on their computer than chatting about chickens, that is for sure!

Yes, there are worse things on line. When I was talking to one my friends about a few people from BYC they asked "when did you get new friends - I never see them over?" Then I had to explain they were my chicken forum friends online. Talk about a strange look. Then she went on about weirdo's trying to be friendly to draw me in and etc...

Yeah, chickbea, DH said that there are a lot of hobbies and things I could be doing with my time that's way worse than chickens. I guess he meant like shopping, sleeping, partying, I do all that too...he hee.

He knew I wanted chickens when he met me, he says it's in my blood that I can't help myself...

Oh and I get rolled eyes too, especially at work!

I get the same smirks from my friends and family also!!! I do know that they humor me quite a bit when I go on and on about my chickens and all the chicken info learned here! I have no idea how we would have done this without you guys! Our chickens are truly blessed because of this website. They truly are members of our family.
