Your roos – good or bad? *Updated Chart on Page 15*

I just lost my alpha roo, Sarge (RIR).

He was just the absolute best. He took excellent care of the entire flock, girls AND guys, and was a great provider & protector. He NEVER took the first bite of any "goodies" he found or that were brought; he always allowed the ladies and little ones to have their portions first. He was wonderful at sounding an alert for possible ground or aerial threats, and always made sure everyone was inside the coop safely before joining them for the night. I love my girls, but I ADORE my roos... He will be missed forever; and he'll always have a very special place in my heart. I've been disappointed and upset over losing some of my flock to a very determined coyote (and likewise, they were VERY determined to continue to find ways to get out of their electric fence), but when I lost him I cried buckets.... It would be my hope that everyone who has chickens and can have roos would be blessed with one that is as dear and sweet as my Sarge.

Is this Jimi Hendrix, or a different roo?

Different roo. We started with 2 Faverolle roos...both were really sweet. For obvious reasons, we couldn't keep the one with crooked beak.

I've only had one rooster and he is an EE. He's never been mean towards people as a matter of fact he pretty much stays clear of us and I don't consider that a bad thing. When I feed treats like grasshoppers or veggies he always lets his girls eat first. Like I said, I've never had any other roos to compare to but as long as he stays like this, he's a keeper.

Disclaimer to everybody – I'm sorry if I don't get this all perfect – I might have missed a couple of roos, and for this I apologize.

Name: Sidney
Breed: Easter Egger
Age: 15 weeks

Sid is just growing out his big boy feathers and is beginning to realize he's a rooster. No crowing yet but he's beginning to work his way out of the middle of the pecking order and beginning to lead the flock here and there around the yard. He's going to be quite a handsome man.
I love him because he's so friendly, follows me around, is curious and jumps into my lap to eat Cheerios. He's gentle and lets me catch and carry him without any fuss. I've been careful to handle him whenever possible and to assert my dominance even before he tries to push the boundaries.
So far he's a great roo and I hope the soon to hit hormone surge won't change him for anything but the better.

Perhaps you can consider giving really nice ones that you can't keep to a great home. It can take a goodly amount of work*** to find great homes but if they are nice roos, it would be nice if they had a chance...
JJ

***to ensure they don't end up in a bad situation, I've done site visits, gotten to know the people, learned what the feeding/medical situation will be etc.

JJ would you like to give one, some / all a good home?

I have 3 roos Little Jerry, Whitey Ford and Rooster Cogburn. Little Jerry is the oldest at 2-3 years of age the other 2 are 15 weeks. All are sweet roos but rooster Cogburn got a little to rough with one of the pullets (same age) and he scalped her, other than that they have all be good.

I have one Barred Rock Roo, Big Mike and he will become dinner, very very soon! I can't even go into the coop without being attacked! mean, mean bird and he's noisy and my nieghbors hate him. He's attacked my husband and my children. I don't like him at all, it's my first experience with a rooster and I don't want another one.

i have 2 anconas/2parterage rocks/2rir/2brownleghorn/1golden polish/ oh yea elvis my bb red bantam roo theres not a bad rooster in the bunch but there was a white rock i rasid that was bad to the bone at 6 month old and boy he sure was good in duplings.
