We live in a city and need to figure this out. 11 weeks old, for the last five weeks on about 1 out of 2 mornings honeycomb has been crowing about 6 times in a row when I let our chickens out of the coop, but not again all day long. A 4H friend who knows a lot about chickens counted the points on honeycombs comb and examined her wing feathers and pronounced it is she (100% sure). She (?) is the dominant hen of 3. If a he, he'll have to leave our small flock. Please make your vote!

thanks!

John

If it is actually crowing (a somewhat unmistakeable sound) then you've got a boy there. My BO hens sing the egg song and cluck about, but they never crow. Truthfully, with that comb and those wattles, I would have guessed boy anyway. I have had a pullet grow wattles like that early in the game, but usually not at 11 weeks.

Plus, the saddle feathers kinda look pointy. That would make it a boy.

Sorry.

Great looking bird.....I have two and they did not get that red until much older. Oh by the way they are both hens. I have to agree it looks like a Roo.... Can you not have a rooster where you live?

I'm glad you posted this I have two 11 week old buff orps one with no comb growth the other looks like yours. Mine is also the "top in comand" no crowing though. I've been hoping that she was very mature for her age but logicaly I've been thinking rooster. I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for all the feedback! Looks like this guy is headed via mail to the east coast where my mom has a farm.

best,

John
