Your worst and best Christmas present ~

Worst gift: It was to both my husband and I from his old boss. We got a gift certificate from Best Buy. Doesn't sound bad, huh? However, it wasn't a true gift certificate. It was an in-store redeemable card from when something got brought back. We're still not sure which of his kids ye olde boss stole that one from. It wasn't till after Christmas that it showed up on my husband's desk in just a plain white envelope with husband's name on it. Charming. Thankfully he no longer works for that guy. It was a mess getting away from there, but we survived.

Best gift: I really don't know. Probably a toss up between the canner (from my folks) and vacuum sealer (from in-laws) I got last year and the new monitor for my computer that my husband got me quite a while ago. All very practical gifts and I was very pleased with them. My sewing machine ranks right up there too.

hmm one of my worst gifts was a rock from my sis in law. i mean, i am a naturalist(in religion) and i love rocks and learning what properties they hold but she didn't give an explanation or anything. still wondering over that one. (i try to buy what she wants/likes etc) she's always given me things that just don't make any sense. ugh. or they make me feel really bad.. except on year.

best gift... not sure on that.. but when i give my hubby's sis presents she truly likes them:) and it makes me happy to see her smile so big(somethign she doesn't seem to do enough any more) i gave her a pug cookie jar one year.. thought she'd start crying right there. (she loves pugs) this year for her b-day i had bought some various greeting cards, all with pugs on them. and i bought several frames to house said cards. im gonna wrap all of them.. and give them to her. plus i also bought a card that suits her.. it says Sister(i love her like my own) and it has two pugs riding a moped(she loves her moped) and i bought a special frame for that one.

sounds kind of corny but she loves pugs. some cards are from easter and halloween and anniversaries.. but i put lots of thought into her presents. lol. i want her to like what she gets.. one year from the sis in law(who gave me a rock) she recieved a sponge bob sticker in a two liter bottle(empty otherwise) and a lighthouse paint stamper thing. nice huh? i bought her a glass figurine of a pug. (see a theme here lol)

Worst: Sexy undies from my Grandma when I was 15.

Best: There have been lots, but my parents bought all four of us passes to disneyland for our birthdays this year. That has been a wonderful present for the whole family that we have gotten tons of use out of.

Funniest - when my dh gave me a pair of pj pants last year and when I held them up, they started unfolding and unfolding and unfolding and unfolding. The tag said Medium but they pants themselves were 3X. I was laughing and you should have seen the look on his face. Priceless!

I LOVE DISNEYLAND!!!! I am jealous!!

We love it too! We have had passes for several years now, but this year we weren't going to be able to swing it. It was really sweet that my parents did that for us as our b-day presents, especially since this year we can all get $$ gift cards on our birthdays! We go there somewhere between 20-40 times a year

Worst: My high school boyfriend had not originally bought me anything, so his stepfather told him he had to buy me SOMETHING. He bought me a $0.49 candy bar. Gee, thanks.

Best: DH is pretty good at buying Xmas presents, I'd have to say the best one was when we had been married for about a year, and I said I wanted a blender (for margaritas) and flannel sheets because our apartment was cold all the time. Instead of assuming that I really wanted a sparkly and lacy underthings, he did actually buy me a blender, some drink mixes to go in it, and flannel sheets and a blanket for the bed. It wasn't that the gifts themselves were so awesome, the blender didn't last more than a couple of years, but the fact that it showed he listened to me and cared about what I wanted.

I feel I should stick up for MILs: My mother-in-law sewed little woolly stuffed replicas of our dog and cats for me one year. They were awesome, very cute. She also sent me an embroidered doily thing for keeping bugs out of an iced tea pitcher and a bread basket with an embroidered napkin liner to match, for when we have dinner on the patio.

The step-monster-in-law has never given me anything other than a headache and a profound sense of horror that such creatures exist in human form.

I got lots of tatty & used stuff as a child. Try not to hold it against my mom. She tried.

Even now, we are rather awful gift givers. DH and I grew up poor (socks & undies for x-mas) and we are no longer poor, so we just buy our kids stuff they want throughout the year. So, the Big Day is a bit of a let down for my kids - who have every gadget. They get books, DVDs, sweaters...

Probably the worst/best "gift" I give is that I buy books from a series called SIGN-SPOTTING. They are road signs written in English-as-a-2nd-language. Hilarious!!!! (For instance, a seafood restaurant with a sign for 'Softshell Crap'.) I give them to my son, but commandeer them to read myself. So, after dinner, I am off in the corner, chortling with snot coming out of my nose. And it isn't even MY book.

I don't generally get Christmas presents. I focus all of our Christmas shopping money on our children. I personally like watching their expressions and hearing their gratitude much more than I like getting gifts myself. I'm not saying that adults shouldn't receive gifts, I'm just saying that's how I like it here. I like making Christmas all about the kids. It's more magical for me that way.

I wasn't even that nice about it. MIL has done some horrible things to try and get 'her' son back. She really burns me she does.... Haven't spoken to her in 3 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and 4 days..... I refuse to speak to that..... person.

Why are everyone's worst gifts from a realitive in law?My AIL (she isn't really my mom's sister, she just married my uncle)has given me great gifts. Why is everyone telling us that one of thier RILs is "just so horrible, I refuse to speak to that person."

Although,of course, all of my absolute favorite gifts has been from Santa..even though I've gotten wonderful gifts from realitives, even RILs.
