Ziggy the secret pullet?

My prediction is now a cockerel, just based on his mannerisms! Still no word on breed (and it’s been a few years so I could be way off), but I’ll try to update once we know for sure so I wanted to make an actual prediction ;) he looks SO much like a pullet, but he’s also really taken to our 8 week old chicks and seems to be on alert for their safety and somewhat tolerant when they snuggle in at night.
It seems he may just be fairly submissive, but hopefully that will just mean we can keep him when everybody’s grown out (especially since one of his chick friends is an autosexed cockerel who I suspect will be establishing doninsmce very soon).

You have a pullet!
I’m STILL not sure, but he’s started crouching when I pat him (like a hen does when anticipating being mounted), but his stance is still very cockerel-like so I still wonder if he’s just an extremely submissive rooster. Still no comb or wattles worth speaking of, though, and the younger CCL cockerel he spends time with that is clearly emerging as the leader of that flock (at 2 months), which I feel would be weird for a 3-4 month cockerel to tolerate so... kinda hoping he’s a pullet at this point, if only because he’s otherwise going to be a really useless rooster 😂

For breed: maybe an Olive Egger? Sometime hatcheries cross Ameraucana with Cuckoo Marans and sell the offspring as Olive Eggers. They tend to look look similar to yours. The males of that cross always have barring, but the females may or may not depending on which breed is the father.

At this age? That's a pullet. I have no doubts.

This is Ziggy (or Zoey, as promised to my daughter if he turns out to be a she). The person we were purchasing chicks from knew I wanted an older roo and told me to take my pick from her pen of young cockerels. It was dusk so lighting was dim.

I grabbed this guy because he reminded me of my barred chocolate orpingtons from years ago. I asked if she was sure he was a roo and she said she thought so, but was fine with me taking him either way, so I did.

He was born in mid-to-late March so he/she is still fairly young. He is the most docile chicken I have ever met (and was clearly ravaged by the other roos - in the light of day I look realized that half his back feathers are missing).

Other than the tail feathers, he doesn’t really look like a cockerel to me. He runs up to me to say hello and be pet. He has also bonded with our older (5 week) chicks a fair bit, although I feel like a pullet/hen might be less likely to do that.

All that said, is it possible he is a pullet? I’m fine either way, more curious than anything, and feel free to weigh in on breed if you have any thoughts (might also help me research what the roos of that breed tend to look like). Thanks!
Do you have updated pictures?
