Zip Ties as Leg Bands?

Then use a specific color on the left leg to designate the year and combinations on the right leg to identify individuals.

That would probably work! I might have to get some more zip ties but I think this might be the method I use. Thanks so much for the help!

Some of those colors very close to each other.
Would be hard to tell them apart, especially once they get a bit dirty.

Agree with this - We occasionally use a black or a clear/opaque (it isn't white) zip-tie to put on certain hens. The clear/opaque ones become almost invisible after a couple months of dust baths. The black ones blend into the color on many chicken legs, and get less "black" after a couple months of dust baths. We haven't used colors, but I would also suggest that any colors you use are very different from each other for ease of distinction from a distance.

I guess I hadn’t thought about dirt and sun-fade. I didn’t get the exact selection of colors purchased and I have a mixed flock so similar colors shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
