I have a hatch due tomorrow and notice my humidity was about 4 % lower than I was comfortable with. I thought I had left a hatching cage in that should have been pulled, but it was for this hatch. Don't remember using it. Anyway I look inside and see the date on the eggs and then notice an AM egg that has zipped, so I check it and the chick is dead. Then I took it out I taped the egg and then touched the membrane. There's no give and that thing is cement hard. I'm dry hatching, so I try to stay around 55% -62%. Mush higher and i get sticky chicks who pip and die. I've never seen anything like this. I hear another egg peeping in there somewhere and hoping I don't lose more. AGAIN!

My humidity was 56%. I've had them hatch at 53%, so this is just really weird to me.

Has anyone seen this and why would it happen?

Never had anything like that happen. It could have been like and egg in an egg that somehow formed an embryo and the chick had 2 shells to pip through and that's just too much to ask.
