My son came to me all excited saying that an egg in the incubator is cracked all the way around. It is a day and a half early for hatch so I went and looked. The egg is definitely split all the way around but the membrane is intacted. I do not see any evidence that it pipped. This is my first hatch so I am not sure what I am looking at. Thoughts??

Nope. The incubator is in lockdown and I was sitting right there. He didn't open it. Just looked in through the glass. Just weird. I checked them all just before lockdown. Candled them and saw no cracks. Could it be a humidity issue?

You may have to pop it out.
Once they dry they get stuck.
Because it is still early, I would wait a few hours to wait for the chick to absorb the yolk from the egg.

Then if the baby does not hatch, carefully pick away the egg around with tweezers, and lift off the top of the egg... to free the chick.
If there is blood stop.
Do not pull the membrane off the baby if it is stuck fast.

It will fluff up later.

But if you can get most of it off to free the head and wings it is best to give it balance.

I pop them out all the time.

Just go slow.

Is there any way to know if it alive before I go fussing with it? Can I candle a cracked egg? The only thing holding it is the membrane.

I need some help. I had 15 shipped eggs set on 4/25. The air cells were all "wonky" and I left them pointy end down for 24hrs. I was down to 6 eggs.. Day 20-this am- one pipped and hatched. One pipped with no progress and stopped peeping. I unwrapped and found fully formed dead chick, with yolk and vessels all absorbed, but fairly dry. They are pipping in the middle of the egg, and I think they can't move right to zip. Is there anything to do? The third pipped and I investigated, but still has vessels visible. Are they doomed because the air cells are all over??? and they are pipping in the wrong spot?? Any advice appreciated. Scooter 16(Lynn Marie)
