We came home from vacation yesterday to find my 2 pet sitters had neglected to feed or water my special needs chicken, Zoey for days. She was severely dehydrated and skin and bones, almost 1/2 dead, thank God we came home when we did. I immediately noticed both wings were drooping down, not "tucked" up against her body like they should be. She is now recouperating and I believe will be fine except the wing issue. Anyone have a thought on that? Could it be that she is just in a weakened state and that is why ? I am now wondering if she is somehow injured but since both are the same, I don't think that's it. That poor chicken has been through so much but she's a trooper ! It bothers me to see her wings down and dragging( among everything else) ......poor girl !

My guess is that it would have to do with the exhaustion/dehydration/starvation. So sorry for her! Sounds like you need to find new pet sitters...

I agree! That's a horrible thing to do to a chicken!

I'm not usually confrontational but I'd goto them and demand why they did that and explain you have a very sick hen because of them.

I did..and got all sorts of "I'm sorry's"...they are not chicken people, either one of them but...to me that's no excuse. Clearly the water was dry and the food was empty and the main person I had in charge of all my animals neglected to go check as I instructed her to..believe me, even though she is/was? a good friend, there is no excuse for what she did. She was lazy plain and simple and just wanted to collect the money so she could go to NJ and see her brother....Needless to say, I only paid her 2/3 of what I would have. I have almost 20 pets here so, it was a big undertaking.
