Been busy last couple of weeks so BYC kinda was on back burner.
New healthy beautiful baby girl. Mom doing well. Kids all adjusting well.
Had a hatch start day we came home. !/2 went well half cooked WAY to much. Good batch of meat birds and a few RIR chicks from the good hatcher. Broody has...
Latest hatch 1 hatcher was great, 1 was a bust, Was at hospital with wife. Temp dipped and daughter was impatient, when I got home eggs were 122 degrees. Some were pipped prior to her adjustment. SO those BSL's were out. Luckily I had WLH,RIR and MP in 2nd hatcher. Still 1 more batch in bator...
Sorry for not keeping up. Really busy couple weeks. B1 hatched 2 chicks, lost 1 to Shi-Tzu. But now have 4 more hens sitting, on top of the 2 sharing eggs, or trying to. Still getting 2.5 dz. a day. So keeping up with weekly demand for table egg sales. Must be the year of the broody.
Good luck. Actually some of MY personal best hatch was with shipped duck eggs. 1st shipped setting and turned out 100% way back when. Most chicken eggs I had shipped turned out a lot worse. Heres to watching waiting and hoping.
Well B1 finally has chicks, 2 of her's (At least she hatched them) and hoping rain don't drowned everyone tonight. Great for garden, not my birds. 1 looks like a male BSL other is sorta chipmunky but real little main body colors. Now waiting on B2 &B3 see if they sort out their eggs. they...
No sign on remaining Duck eggs, Due today but will wait a couple in case.
Clearing hatcher out tomorrow for Friday. Just a day extra for late comers. Hoping for a couple more but not counting on it.
Well finalized my May hatch, just left last few to fluff until tonight.
RIR-4
MP -11 (2 blacks, rest white. -1 1st night layed on.)
BLS-15 (6 male,9 females)
WLH-10
And 2 early Rouen. (Will check eggs in bator tomorrow and probably clear.)
And as a bonus B1 has 2 baby chicks. 1 looks like...
Yes BSL=Black sex link. For me anyway. I have RIR=Rhode Island Red, BSL, WLH=white leghorn. BA= Black Australorp. BPR=Barred Plymouth rock, BO=Buff Orp. SLW=Silver Laced Wynnedot. And A-W=Austra-White. And BYM=Barn Yard Mix. Also MP=Meat Project, (A-W x CX)
Todays count out of hatcher and in...
Only thing I see you can do is remove water when putting them in at night. But would require letting them out EVERY day without fail. Duck+water=mess, simple fact.
Have 18/63 out so far for chickens and pips everywhere. Also 1 Rouen pip and another ready to zip. These guys started a little early but maybe nearby chicks in hatcher started something and they wanna race. At least 2 RIR, 3-4 WLH , 5+MP and rest are BSL (Looking the 50/50 it spose to be.) After...
A second duck is hatching. There goes the 1st hatch of June... in May. Oh well. 2 more ducks (At least I hope) is more than I thought I would get this year from my original pair. At least I know I will have some June babies.
I happily forgot that pekins are MEAT ducks. But my hatched Rouens are keeping right with them. They clean 2 LBS. of feed and a gallon waterer (Most on floor of brooder I am sure.) in 1/2 day. Only time they like me is when 1 or other is empty. Have not lost any yet, just 1 hatchery Rouen with...
My 6-1 hatch is coming early. Have 1 on it's way out of shell. My oldest bunch are growing like weeds and last weeks hatch is coming right along. Last duck hatch w/o a mature male for his early in the year. Next year maybe I will have dozens more..... maybe.
Did not get to weigh birds tonight. Did grab a couple quick and they are the larger white birds 199-10 oz and 195 (I think) is 9.6+
have 3 more MP in hatcher now and a lot more pipped as I type. Will compare side by side with RIR, BSL and WLH. This weekend will be long since I plan on tagging...
