I've got the incubator set up in my classroom with the temperature stabilized. I stopped collecting eggs from my coop last Saturday, so that I'd have enough eggs to hatch. Since Saturday two hens have laid 7 eggs, which I will remove from under them in the morning and take to school. So, do I...
I've been looking at websites that let you order heartworm medicines without a prescription. Has anyone had any experiences, good or bad with this? These websites offer both heartgard and other generic medicines. I'm thinking about ordering from one of the websites but I don't want to get...
It's been 24 hours since the attack and Nellie is recovering. She is eating on her own now. She's kind of lurching around when she walks but her feet and legs seem okay, it's just the injury to her back between her wings that's bad. Her eye is beginning to open so she may not be blind. I'm...
I haven't been able to check her legs yet. Right now I'm letting her rest and keeping an eye on her. When she seems a little more stable I'll finish cleaning her wounds and put some antibiotic cream on them. I hope she'll be okay, she's my favorite hen.
I brought a small cage in the house and I've got her in the house. She has another wound on her back that I didn't notice at first. Also she's kind of flopping when she tries to move. I cleaned the wound on her back with hydrogen peroxide and she squawked and fussed so I stopped. Now she's...
A hawk attacked my little bantam hen, Nellie. My husband beat it off her and saved her. She's still alive but seems kind of in shock. She's got blood on her neck and in her mouth. But she is moving her head around and looking around. Is there anything else
I should do besides keep her quiet?
The chickens are okay. I think if they were going to get sick they would have shown some symptoms by now. I do think it will be a good idea to not eat the eggs for awhile. Maybe 21 days at least? That's how long we waited when we treated them for worms a couple years ago.
Thanks for the...
Just checked on the chickens and they are all roosting normally. I may give them some molasses in the morning. Right after this happened I tried calling the customer service number on the bag of poison but their office was closed. The poison was spectracide once and done. Hoping and praying...
I just let the chickens out and 10 minutes later my DH told me he put fire ant poison out. So we run out to put them back in the coop and discovered that they had already eaten the poison off two of the fire ant hills. So now I will just wait and see what happens I guess. I took their water...
My 20 year old college student daughter got a tattoo last summer and I didn't find out about it until this April. I did an internet suearch and saw that there's some cream that you can buy that supposedly removes tattoos over time, but I don't know if it really works or not.
What kind of dogs do you have? Your husband should get busy training those dogs to leave the chickens alone. I know it can be done. Two years ago I lost 3 of my chickens when my father-in-law's dog attacked them. I hadn't had chickens very long and the dogs weren't used to them. Well now...
Oh yeah, bedtime is pretty comical. The other day I was a little late feeding my flock, they had already gone to roost although it wasn't dark yet. When I propped the coop door open to do my chores, Nellie flew down and went outside. Then Lucky, my rooster, immediately followed her out and...
