Ours is calm also, but I was just worried she might not sit on the eggs any more if we moved her. After reading the advice you guys gave me, I will go ahead and get her moved. I have been petting her for a few days and she has been fine about it, but today she did raise her neck feathers when I...
Thank you. I think my husband is out there building something for her now. I hear him hammering on something. I will go out now and help get her set up.
We have our 1st broody hen and have decided to let her sit on some eggs. It's an Australorp hen that's about 8 months old. Their eggs have had a very good hatch rate in our incubators, so I hope she can hatch some chicks.
We have never had a broody hen before, so I need advice on what we...
I think I have read this on here before, but can't find it now. We sold our rooster and wanted to know about how long the hens' eggs will still be fertile. In that flock, we plan to use them for eating eggs only soon, but want to save the last fertile eggs from them for hatching.
Very pretty eggs! I am jealous! That's what I want - a variety of pretty colors. What type of chicken laid the one on the right that looks pink or almost red? Was the other pink from an EE? I think I will also make that photo my wallpaper. I change it every few days so it will be nice to look...
I have 25 EEs coming within the next couple of days from MPC. They were supposed to be mailed today. I assumed they would all lay green eggs, though. It would be nice if some would be pink or a different color. I took advantage of their offer for 25 EEs, all pullets, that they emailed out a...
Does anyone have chickens that lay true pink eggs? What kind are they? I have heard of this, but have not seen any. If you do, do you have pictures of them? I have a mixed pen that I want to use for laying colorful eggs. So far I have the basic white, brown, and green egg layers in my pen. I...
You are not the only one who loves to rub your face on the cute little buggers! I do the same thing. I even like to rub my face on my husband's mean rooster if he is holding him while I do it. It's the only way the mean old thing will let me get that close.
I have no idea what your red chick...
I will try to dig up photos of mine. I bought 3 nearly identical chicks and they were all so different when they grew up. Then I bought a 4th from the same person who also looked like the 1st 3 and he was different also. It was amazing how different they looked when grown up.
What part of Georgia are you in? I am in Southeast Alabama (near Dothan) and we have fertile Australorp eggs and some chicks that are about a week old (and more hatching any day now.) We have had about a 90% hatch rate so far with our eggs, but of course they are laid here and hatched here...
Once they start drying and fluffing up a little, I always move mine and all have been ok so far. Just don't put them in with any others until they get a bit steadier on their feet because even some that are just a day or 2 older will knock them down and run all over them. Good luck! Keep them...
