Update from the Hen House. Thank you for the advice on my last Chickens illness. Sadly, she passed away. She is buried next to her sister. The six chicks that I picked up at 1 day old now look nothing like they used to. Out of the six, I think that only one is a rooster. I am not sure about...

In need of some assistance. One of my older hens has been acting strange lately. She is now weak and unable to walk properly. It seems as if she has issues just standing on her own. She has also lost some weight. Anyone know what might be wrong? Her symptoms are common with many illnesses from...

Buggles, Good to see someone else from leesville area. Looks like you have been around for a little bit. Do we have any good farmers markets or live stock swaps in our area?

My 100w bulb is about 90 deg in a room with an ambient temp of 65 deg. If that helps. My 1 Week Old, future fluffy butts. So far everything is going well. I will have to make an addition to the coop in order to house them.

It is finally sunny out in central LA. The chicks first day out in the sun. Appenzellar Spitzhauben - I wonder if this will be a Roo or Hen? They are almost 1 week old. I love the Mohawk. Birdman - I used some double-sided tape and mounted the thermometer to the wall. They were...

The chicks are about 5 days old now. All is going well. All they do is chirp, run around, eat, drink, and poop. Sometimes they do it all at once, lol. I was able to catch a rare moment when they are all asleep ant the same time. Does anyone add any vitamins or anything to their water? I picked...

The dark spots could just be dried blood that the hens are continuing to pick off. My smallest hen has them because the others pick on her at night before they roost. It also looks like your Roo just ate a bunch of dirt, LOL.

Looks like some decent storms coming in today. I bought two rolls of the 2mil plastic from Lowes and wrapped part of the pen. I am trying to make their environment a little dryer during these winter rains. It should also help with blocking the wind.

So, I might be able to pick up some Appenzeller Spitzhauben chicks that are 1-2 weeks old. Has anyone raised this breed before? Any thoughts? They look very pretty and lay eggs well from what I read. Pam - those are some good looking chicks. Glad everything worked out. Top dog - I am...
