Looking for fertile eggs in Austin

If you are planning a trip to the San Antonio area I have some fun colored Brahmas and you are welcome to a few eggs. Got a broody setting on 18 right now, the last one hatched 11/12.

    Texas

Question for you savvy Texas residents - I'm looking at a job offer in San Antonio near the international airport. Would like to stay within a 30 minute drive and keep my flock, rooster included. Is that a possibility? I've been looking at the HAR website and don't see any unrestricted...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Quote: I ended up using 18 gallon rubbermaid totes for my girls. Cut a chunk out of one side, vent holes and left the top open (the lid of the chicken tractor covers it). It hangs on a frame. Partially so they were easy to pull out and clean and partially because a wood box of that size is...

Giant splash cochin hen or roo?

You are welcome @sagebrush82 , mine have always been non-confrontational and I've had a few different lines now. I let the young guys grow out in my free range flock with a dominant EE rooster and while I occasionally do get a few pre-pubescent crow attempts after a few weeks they give way to...

Giant splash cochin hen or roo?

If he is in with your Silkie you may never hear him crow. Cochins are remarkably quiet roosters compared to some of the other breeds and only the lead one crows here.

    Question on neck lacing color

Curious to know what the genetics behind this neck lacing are and if there is a name for it other than 'colombian type'? Thanks!

    Backyard Brahmas!!

They just started laying so I put some eggs in the incubator to test fertility. Hatch date will be 4/19, can let ya'll know how it goes. These are really young birds so not sure if the roo knows how to do his job yet.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I had a really wonderful Partridge Brahma roo but no hens so I crossed him with my blue buff cochin hen. Got some lovely babies that look more like Brahmas and are much larger than the original parents. They probably needed some hybrid vigor. They also lay some neat spotted eggs. They...

Exactly 6 weeks old today. This time I hatched some Double Laced Barnevelders, am wondering if 2 is a hen or a very small rooster? Its comb just turned pink. The two roosters were distinguishable by the first week with big red combs. On the others, the red guy is definitely a rooster...

Four 4 and Two 5 week olds, any guesses? They are a mix of Cochin and Brahma/EE. Normally I wouldn't hatch so many but the bobcats have gone above and beyond this year figuring out how to tear apart my coop. :/ Roo and Hen are second to last picture, top and right. Thanks! *edited to add...

Thank you! Up until this batch the males have always had a drastic difference in feathering and were really obvious by 2-3 months. Genetic roulette though! They will still make some pretty yard birds, just have to pick one to keep. :)
