We have one cow and calf and 3 steers. On the hunt for another cow/calf but its getting a tad late for that. Ultimately looking to have 3 cows to breed, 3 yearlings, and 3 calves each summer.
Eggs we sell to a built up customer base and at the farmers market. Recently have tapped into the...
Hey all! came digging around my old BYC account looking for some old chicken photos and figured i would pop by and say hey!
Things are great on the farm and busy as always, but i wouldn't have it any other way. Chicken math is at work as always and we are running right around 120 hens these...
Hey @duluthralphie are you still breeding cream legbars and white sports? The breed Came up in a discussion with a homesteader friend and made me think of you
No, i have a general contractor. The bank wouldnt allow me to be my own GC. So i found a GC that would sub out work to me. I just finished up all the low voltage and network cabling this morning. ready for the drywall and insulation guys to come this week now!
Thanks, that means a bunch! With the new house going up, I have been also working on getting the rest of the farm cleaned up and organized so that it doesn't look like an eyesore with the new house haha
watching them tear down the old house with an excavator was a very, very satisfied thing :)
Ok, so for a technical dude, I am struggling! How the heck am I supposed to see when new posts have been made on the thread without hitting refresh all the time? it used to have that little tab that popped up on the bottom of the screen but not anymore?
@jerryse how is your northern Minnesota retreat coming? Last I remember you were still assembling your new saw mill to cut lumber

In other news, since I'm not busy enough , i am also in the process of stringing high tension electric fence around the farm. Should have 7 acres in when I'm done. Will have calves and maybe lambs on it next spring!
I've just been a busy dude! I tried to check in a while back but it seems the iPhone BYC app is hosed again? The last 12 months have been wild for us. We are currently homeless, living in an RV, and building a new house. Hope to be moved in before the end of October when it starts getting real...
morning all! took me a bit to catch up!
I have a new supervisor at work and he made it clear that he is not a lax about phone usage at work as my last supervisor. this is fair, but means less daytime BYC reading. My last supervisor trusted us to not let it intrude on our work and i thought...
Not a great photo but i took my snowmobile out to check my snowfence. it seems to have broken in the middle. Hard to tell from the angle but the snow drift is now taller than the fence!
i will have to go out with some long zip ties when the wind dies down and fix it
Another dark grainy...
sounds like I would appreciate doing business with your wife's business. I am an easy man to please, i just need a little communication! I am still fighting to get enough attention to get a bid! i suspect most contractors arent too worried about what work they will be doing in 6 months, just...
I spent my lunch leaving another round of voicemails for general contractors and plan drawers. Not one flipping person will call me back! Not even a 'hey I got that info I asked for and will get back to you'
I am so frustrated!
Plan b of building my own pole barn house is looking better by...

I have heard the same but I also have read a more recent article that they now have a feed additive that reduces the methane production to much lower numbers. I believe it said that it is grain fed cattle that create the most due to the way the rumen digests the grain.
Anyways... it has been a...
