I have 2 White Chinese geese. always together but this morning one missing. Long story short I found her in the barn sitting as if she was injured; I rolled her over to ck. but she ran off and I found an egg, her first. Will she return and sit and lay more and hopefully hatch them? main...
not sure I understand 2 weeks worth; do you mean gather all eggs she lays for first 2 weeks.
I have 2 White Chinese geese. found female in barn sitting as if she was injured so I rolled her over to see if she was injured but she was sitting on an egg (first time laying for her) she ran off...
they all, ducks, geese, chickens free range so I guess I will keep an eye on them for a while and see how it goes. They are secure in a pen at night but seperated.
thanks for the input
I have 3 White Pekins, 7 wks. old and 3 White Chinese Geese 3 wks. old. The geese try to get close to the ducks, the ducks run and the geese chase them and bite at them; is this normal?
I tried to pen them up together at night but the ducks seemed terrified of the geese. Will they get used to...
First time duck owner here, I have 7 laying hens. 3 Pekins 7 wks. old. Man do they grow up fast! They were bought as straight run so I don't know what I have yet. I am hoping for at least a pair so I can get a few eggs. They are having a little trouble with ramp up to pool but 2 of them...
I have 7 hens, no rooster; one hen stays on nest. should I go out and get a rooster, force her off nest, get eggs and let her start again; or will she start sitting again?
I had posted about my White Leghorns laying eggs but not in nest boxes. Someone suggested leaving them locked in coop (they usually free range) for a day or 2; I did that and let them out about 4 pm as they are done laying by then and they went 9 for 9 on eggs AND all eggs were in nest boxes...
Mine free range but I close door after they roost; I had a problem with coon but consider it my fault because I did not close door at night. They stay reasonably close to coop most of the day.
Good luck
Catching them in the act and then putting them in box sounds like a good idea but I don't think they would let me catch them without a big race and I hate to do that to them.
Thank you for your idea and I may try it if I can catch them.
Yes, boxes are in coop. I thought about that but decided to try and glean some knowledge here first.
I think coop is big enough and I think I will try that.
Thank you for your time.
I had 4 of my 9 who started roosting on rafters in barn right above my lawn mower etc. I started chasing them out after they all roosted and they would fly down and enter coop to roost like they should; after about 5 days of this they took the hint and now roost in coop with the rest of the...
