I've been planning on getting started on raising meat rabbits for a few months now, and have finally started to dig my nose into it. But I've never raised rabbits before and would love a little bit of advice.
I've read through different sites that a 24"x 24"x 30" would work well enough for a...
This morning I found a red tailed hawk feather right outside my coop. I had my girls running around in a separate area, lucky the hawk didn't figure that out. But now with the possible threat of a hawk flying around my home, I've been keeping the girls inside their coop. The Eagles in my area...
...they've been attacking my flock. Any time one of the girls walks by, one of them will start to shake their head and charge, pursue, and grab hold of the chickens feathers. I've heard that the drakes turn aggressive, but its not just the male.
Are my ducks maturing or just turning into...
I mostly believe that it is indeed from the rooster being there that is making her squat so much. The rooster was just recently integrated and is the lowest in the pecking order. So no, she isn't submitting to the rooster. I got the guy from my boss at work. She said he was acting aggressive...
...I ruffle her up and she screams, fluffs her feathers, then comes back for more.
Sure, I've got a few girls that will come up to me and sit in my lap, or jump up when I'm eating to try and steal my food or ***** at me when they cant... Mim -_-
I don't mind the screaming, but what's with it?
...and harm him, cause his so much smaller then my girls. But when I let them out, they looked at him and I could tell that they gave two little **** about him, cause they continued the day like it was any other day.
So I let him out, chased him around a little and used two fingers to poke him...
I've got 7 girls and one of them, Mim, has stopped laying. She still uses the nest box, but never lays. Today she was squatting for a good while today, so I flipped her over and she had what appeared to be a soft egg shell of some sort.. hard to tell, but looked close enough. Mim also has a bad...
My younger ones are going to be 15 weeks old tomorrow and Definitely sure my white barred is a hen. While she acts like a rooster in front of the actual rooster, she's very much a hen.
Truth be told, I care little for the rooster and have no plans on keeping him and have no prob with my white...
Lets see...
Barred rock
White barred rock
Rhode island red
Production red
light brahma
I just started my flock this winter and still live in city limits at the moment.
Once we get things fixed up at the farm we're going to be moving out there and will really grow after that.
So my new members of the flock have settled in rather nicely with the older gals, but now that they get along, other problems are starting to appear.
I've got 8 chickens all together.
Older gals- Two barred rocks, and one Rhode island red
Younger members- two light brahmas, one white...
So I've got three hens who have been laying since October, two barred rocks and one rhode island red.
Those three gals get along to well that I cant tell who's in what pecking order.
Their all spoiled down to the breast bone. If they see you, they come running begging for treats or attention...
So the Pekin ducks are going to be 8 weeks old tomorrow and I'll admit, I'm going to miss the stinky buggers. The thought of not having them out back will seem odd.. Only because I wont have to keep care of them anymore... Still just plain odd
I'm going to keep them alive for just a few more...
Day three...
My drakes still limping, but it seems that keeping him in the small dog cage during the day and making him swim from time to time, is helping. The occasional 'multviamins' in his water also might be aiding as well.
I can tell that he hates going into the cage everyday, but...
When I let my pekin ducks out this morning, my drack came limping out.
I've tried to find cause by, checking the underside of his foot for bumps or cuts and checking for swelling increased heat.. And I found nothing..
For now (since I cant find a reason for the limp) I've moved him into a...
Thanks Bantam
I can easily tell between single combs
But the light brahmas are hard for me to tell
Was mostly wondering because of the tail size difference between the two.
I've got two production reds, two light brahmas, and one white barred rock. Now, I was hoping to get all females, because they were already sexed (but of course nothing 100%)... And I've noticed some major difference between my two production red... Was really hoping it was just quick growth...
...have three older girls, and can say from experience that hers is just the same as theirs. The squat with wings out, but up, and feather fluff after.
My other chicks do not squat, they usually just relax and let me pet them, except my other white hyper brahma who runs around for ***** and...
I've got a five week old chicks, two white brahma, two production reds, and a white barred rock. One of my white brahma's has started to squat. I find the behavior for a five week old to be a little odd.. But then again.. She's the most mellow out of the five and is probably in the lowest...
