I have a conundrum...I have one hen and one roo. I want to hatch the eggs and would like to maximize the viable # of eggs I can hatch at any one time.
Conventionally I'd be able to get about 7 eggs before the first ones I gathered start to loose viability.
I remember reading something about...
I have a flock of 4 at the moment. One 2yr old hen with 3 - 5 month old hens one of which is a bantam. I was out of town for a week and when I got back the bantam had dried blood down it's neck and it looked like it's comb had been beat up a little. I wasn't sure how it got hurt but the injury...
First off one of the ingredients is artificial color. Why is there artificial color in feed? I will never buy Nutrena brand anything again just because of that.
But..
I have some chicks hatching in a couple days is it alright to feed to baby chickens?
All about 2 months old.
mixed breed. There were two roos a Jersey Giant and an Arucuna I'm not sure if that is a pea comb or a low single comb. This one is big like the others I think are male.
Pretty sure this is a girl.
I have a hatchery hen that has green legs but should have slate blue. I will be breeding with a slate blue leg roo. What leg color(s) would the off spring have? The leg color genetic posts I find seem to be white legs related.
Went to the feed store for some chicks. My lovely 8yo fell in love with a little white frizzle, which I believe is a bantam Cochin sold as a pullet. I've been noticing the early reddening of his comb here he is at 5 weeks. What do you think? He or She?
I got the bug and decided to build a coolerbator. This will be my first time incubating.
I made the light bulb/water heater thermostat version. I may have damaged the thermostat when modifying it. When I tested it thoughI was getting 4 degree temp swings minimum so that wasn't going to work...
I'm building a coolerbator and I have glass for the viewing windows that I was going to mount into the cooler lid.
My question is what do I use to glue them on?
I got some stuff and I'm just noticing it says not to use on polypropylene. What did other people use? That worked?
Not sure what time of day it happened I was away for a day but something dragged this one off and left a trail of feathers behind and this. It's like all the skin was taken off. It looked like a leg was chewed a little but no body damage that I could see. I didn't get a chance to clean it up and...
I'm lucky enough to live close to about five feed stores, but that leaves me with WAY TOO many choices of feed.
After about a year and a half I think I might have found the one. I hope the chickens feel the same
Albers Country Layer Pellet. 15% - anyone use it? like/hate it?
I like it...
Hi all,
First time hatching, I have an EE who went broody, I gave her some eggs. She hatched and has taken care of them for four weeks tomorrow. The chicks seven of them are living under a camper shell and get occasional yard outings. Tempatures here are highs 58 lows 44 and that looks to be...
Anyone use colloidal silver to cure anything with their birds. I saw a place selling it and was wondering what an if it is effctive for. Please let me know, what you used it for, how much you used and how you administered it. Any info would help thank you.

I have three pullets all 5-6 months old. They have all been active and healthy. This is my first time with checkens so I easily could have missed some signs of distress. One of my birds has had a runny nose. it was a clear discharge almost looked just like water coming out of the nostril. This...
I'm going nuts waiting for the eggs. This is my first time. All three are getting really close to laying. Out of the three Righty, Lefty and Lacy I think Righty will start any day now. I catch her in the nest, her comb and waddles are the biggest and reddest of the three. Lacey will probably be...
I'm about a month into the world of chicken keeping and nothing too bad has happened yet. Knock on wood
Certainly learned a few things it's fun. The ladies are two brown sex-links and a silver lace wyandotte they should be about 5-6 months old but no one has laid yet. The sex-links...
I got my first birds 4 month old hens. I was told 2 EE's and a Red sex link. It was really dark when I got them so I'm not sure who's who. Please help, or let me know if they are something completely different.
I'm pretty sure he said EE for this one, well he actually said Ameraucana from the...
