Are you sure it's 20 weeks old??
That sure looks like an Ameracuana/EE rooster, but more like what a 14-16 week old would look like.
The coloring is what does it. I'd say late to mature roo. Every one I've hatched and raised that color has been a Roo without fail, although they are usually...
The white one in question is a cockerel, and at least two maybe three others are as well (The red and black, the white and blk with all the splashes in its wings facing away) and probably the one who you can only see the tail on the far left. The two white and blk on the far left and far right...
I have and have had SLW and GLW and the waddles on yours are fine and don't seem to be too big or to indicate a male. Combs can get a bit pink but as long as they don't start growing out (assuming them have rose combs) that's usually more pullet than cockerel. The white in the head is also an...
The splashes of color (darker red) in the wings and what appears to be saddle feathers from the picture would have me say it's a roo.
Also, The larger "rear-end" running out of the picture to the left with all the red in it's wings is likely a roo as well, as that color generally is, but more...
elbertchcick or lizanne...could you post a pick of your hens for comparision? I'd really like to see what the grown up version of this brute will look like. TXS.
interesting that I'm getting the nods for pullet with these latest pics.... If it is a pullet (and We'd like it to be...) it's the biggest 9 weeks old girl I've ever had. My gut says it's a cockerel... I hope I'm wrong. As I said, We've had many of them in the past, just never had a girl this...
Great story...and if she is only ever an extended member of your family, that's ok too. Let her decide if she wants to stay in your coop/run. At least she'll be around your house and yard. :-) Keep us posted.
Here it is at 9 weeks now... it is about 15% larger than our other females and has really thick legs.... it's pea comb has three rows but is not very large or red.
I'm convinced it's a cockerel, my GF is still holding out that it will just be a big girl... opinions welcome since we've had many...
No red in its wings so far, but it is noticeably bigger in every way than all the others and even the one that is close to it in size has smaller legs, a fuller tail and different neck feathers. Honestly...this week when the neck feathers really came in....that was the final thing that made me...
So we got 7 two day old sexed EE/Ameraucana chicks, are plan was to keep 2-3 and a close friend who wanted to stat raising chickens agreed to take the rest off our hands at around 14 weeks. They are now six weeks old and my GF's favorite appears to me to be a Roo. We're pretty familiar with...
All great looking birds. One other snipit.. although most chicks sold as Ameraucana are actually EE, it's also true that most chicks sold as EE are more Ameraucana looking than anything else. Many "Look Like" an Ameraucana but just don't meet all the requirements to be a true/pure bred...
#1 and #3 are EE Roos, and the SLW has a big red comb for 12 weeks, I'm going roo on that as well, since neither of my SLW hens had a comb like that when they were that young.
