Boy, I wish they made something like this for use with the Tattler lids. I have a magnetic stick for the metal lids, but must use tongs for the Tattlers
Looking forward to broccoli, beets, lettuce, cabbage, collards, turnips, kale and our late tomatoes are looking goood! So are the late October beans! Ummm good!
No, didn't leave in the canner as I use Tattler lids and you have to tighten as you remove from the canner. Sigh, the compost pile will enjoy!
Can you can can? Legs up!
So, I canned carrots last night, around 7:00, this morning, sadly two did not seal. They are still slightly warm, can I put them in the frig for dinner tonight, safely?
I think if this had happened when we were new to this, I would have quit! Too gruesome! Three years and NO losses, with sickness, until this past winter, or predators, until now....we have been very blessed?
I have the same name for my raccoon!
Yep, raccoon! Sucker keeps pushing trap out of the way, at least the chickens are ok. No eggs yesterday and I think their appetite is a little diminished.
Raccoon! The sucker found a weak spot on the roof. We fixed that, secured the birds last night. Coon again moved the trap and proceed to bust out of hardware wire. Many repairs to get done. Need to get to work. Can't take pictures of the gruesome sight. But, mystery solved! Oh, all chickens...
We will fix the hole. But we thought we would give trapping a chance since we thought the chickens were secure. Must have been hiding in the coop, even though I checked and counted the birds. Weasel is what DH suspects. I don't think a coon would be able to escape without more damage done to...
I thought the mystery had been solved. We did find a small hole in the run cover after losing a hen. So last night we secured the birds in the coop, closed the door and set a noose trap at hole. I went out at 10:00 last night, and sure enough the trap had been carefully moved, but the birds were...
Carcass has been taken care of. Don't see where predator entered or exited. Most feathers were inside of coop. There were some black feathers, max was white, scattered in the run. So, you don't think the hens would have taken him down?
Our chickens are three years old. Ten hens and one agitated rooster. Yesterday I went out to the coop and there were feathers everywhere! Then looked out in the covered run to find my rooster dead. Do you think the hens were tired of him and he had made them mad for the last time? If a varmint...
