Can you eat birds that have Marek's?

I have a suspicion that a few of my latest batch of chickens have Marek's. These are all roosters that I planned to butcher in about a week. Should I simply cull them, or is it safe to use them for eating?

    Interesting feathers

This cockeral is a cross between either a BSL x Partridge Rock roo, or a Barred Rock x Partridge Rock roo. What do you guys think? Is this speckled or just a poor barring pattern. I think he is georgeous but he is really a surprise out of those mixes. Any ideas what genetics played out it...

    Time to go

So, I got up and went to go check on the 3 week old chicks in their brooder box in my 3-season room today. It was so cute how they were all curled up together in a big spot of sunshine....PROBLEM: the spot of sunshine was about 5 feet away from their brooder box. Time to go out to the coop I see.

    Golden Laced Wyandotte pattern

I am having trouble finding decent images of 3 to 4 week old GLW chicks to compare mine to...can someone please post some pictures of theirs around this age. I am not familiar with this breed at all, and when a friend and I split a chick order we both ended up with one but they look completely...

2 Buff Orpington Cockerals, 1 muffless EE Cockeral, 1 Silver Duckwing OEG Cockeral

Pick up locally: LaPorte, IN 12 weeks old: 2 Buff Orpington Cockerals, 1 muffless B/W EE Cockeral, 1 Silver Duckwing OEG Cockeral. All these birds are exceptionally friendly and have been handled since 2 days old. They are non-aggressive, are used to free-range and have not started crowing...

    Who's the mommy?

I have a broody hen that just hatched 5 chicks out of random eggs from my entire flock. I can tell who the mother was on all of them but one, a chipmunk striped one. My rooster is a Partridge Rock. I think the mother for this one might be my barred rock. Will Partridge Rock over Barred Rock...

    California White questions

I posted this in another thread and noone responded, so I'm trying again here. Forgive me for the double post: I recently got a California White chick out of a feed-store bin. I'm having incredible difficulty finding answers to some very simple questions. 1. Are they truly sex-links, or just...

    Are California Whites a sex-link?

I recently got a California White chick out of a feed-store bin. I'm having incredible difficulty finding answers to some very simple questions. 1. Are they truly sex-links, or just hybrids. If they are sexlinks, what is the color difference between male and female. 2. Every picture I can...

    Golden BLACK?

I have been trying to find out what breed/breeds this chick might be, I can't seem to find anything close to her. 3 days: 4 weeks 8 weeks (she isn't dead, just sunbathing) She has a peacomb, clean yellow legs, and deep PURPLE feathers

    Broodiness of EE's

Just popping in to ask a quick question that I couldn't find the answer to on the other Forums. How often does a typical Easter Egger go broody? And in general, are they good mothers?

    rooster questions

I currently have 16 hens and one rooster. He is a real doll, very tame and friendly and a good watchroo, however he can only really keep his eye on about 5 hens at a time and I freerange over 4 acres. Hoping to get a few more roos for flock protection, I recently got 14 new EE chicks...

    Not what I expected:

Anybody have any ideas what breed this might be? He is 4 weeks old in this pic and since then his head feathers are coming in, also black. His body feathers have a deep purple sheen.

2 mystery chicks from the "EE" bin

Got these two out of a group of 14 from the Easter Egger bin at TSC. They are the only ones that have no beard or muffs, and yellow legs. I really don't think they are Easter Eggers, any guesses on what they may be? This is TERROR, he/she has a pea-comb. 4 days old: 4 weeks old: This...

    Introducing new roos

Perhaps this has been answered elsewhere, but.... I have a 1 year old rooster who has been the only roo his whole life with 17 hens. He is an absolute doll, very very friendly both to me and his hens. I am adding 12 new hens this year and would like to add 2 or 3 more roosters for yard patrol...
