Guinea Keets, 2 days old. Healthy. Farmyard blend but probably mostly Royal Purples. All females are Royal Purples and most of our males. Want to sell them all together, pick up only. Will probably have more hatch out in 1 and 3 weeks.
naw... that makes sense! It's sort of what I've done before... It's a bigish and safe coop... They'll start in the house... but I would love it if they could move out at 4 weeks... I think I'll start thinking on how to split the coop in two with chicken wire (I did it once to raise 2 different...
I've had before iodine, sheets, an aspirator, bottles and nipples just in case, powdered colostrum, scissors and thread for the cord... just in case... several other things. I've never actually caught the process in the act, though... and usually go out first thing in the morning to see teeny...
I have never combined ages when I raised chicks... except for maybe a week or two apart from each other. We have 2-3 coops that we rotate out according to the hens' ages, basically. My leftover older flock have mostly gone rogue... My barred rock moved out when her buddy passed on and now...
I have pygmy goats. The chickens are CONSTANTLY in their pasture with them. They have all gotten along fine. I have an orpington roo who is a big guy. When we had pygmy babies I was actually worried about them... They were much smaller than the roo... but they have all always gotten along...
So we have a coop that I really like... that I want to put most of this spring's newbies in... But there are two problems.
1) the old ladies (what I call them) will insist on staying in this coop... I've tried moving them before but eventually I break down and let them live in it again...
When I first got chicks I started with them thinking there were better places out there... But had such good experience I've gone back to them every year. One year I had several losses just after arrival (but I think it was because tehre was an unfortunate extreme heat wave literally the day...
Anyone have or build a tractor they can actually move themselves? I don't always have access to the truck to move ours easily... I've been trying to brainstorm ways to make it as light as possible but wanted to see if anyone had an awesome idea or plan that I'd never found...
We have 2...
I've experimented... We want to confine ours to a back pasture. Mine fly over a 4 food fence like it's a little jump to play with. And I have the heavy breeds. We need to eventually fix all our fences and what I want to do is do a five foot with the top being one strand of wire. In my...
okay so I just found this thread from a long time ago... I don't have pics but wanted to update.
We have 1 8 by 8 coop for the chickens, and 1 done with just 1 cattle panel that's about 4 by 8 for the guineas. We had some SERIOUS predator problems... they were able to get through...
??
W'e have 5 right now... we've lost many due to predators this summer and we also didn't have a good hatch so in the spring we're planning on getting a huge new batch... But I think I want to switch the guineas we have now into a new coop... I will take the coop they are currently in and...
Thanks!
Yeah... that's what we've done so far. Everytime one comes around it will just keep coming until it gets something... If I keep everyone locked inside for 2-3 days the Hawk will go away... but we'll have another one a couple weeks later... and usually we discover that one's back by...
I'll spare the gory details but we've had a really really rough year with Hawks. I've tried searching online and in the forums... but does anyone know if any livestock might keep Hawks away? We have two small to medium breed dogs that will eventually be outside most of the day (right now...
It's been such a crazy summer I have to check my records to remember exactly... but they're around 3 months I think... Through the years we've had about 50-60 birds and believe it or not this is the first one I've suspected...
I have a bunch of guinea eggs that are set to hatch early February... I was going to get at least a handful of new chicks com March. I sort of had this realization that it would be both easier, and maybe better for the guineas, if I raised them all together. I thought maybe teh guineas would...
Finally decided on cattle panel... We'll get started this week. I'll post some pics when we're done! This one's practice b/c after we finish we have to build 2 more! haha!
