4 week old pullets AND few day old chicks???

We have a batch of 4 week old pullets and another 6 just few day old chicks. Can we combine them? If so, how? I've introduced 6 weeks old pullets to my older flock successfully each year, but I've never had to batch of chicks to try to integrate. Any pointers? Thanks!

    Mold on eggshells. Why?

I do not clean my eggs after Gathering them. I simply keep them in cardboard cartons on the kitchen counter until ready to use them. Today, when I went to use some eggs, there was mold growing on two or three of them. Does anyone have an idea as to why this would be and how I could prevent it...

Comb, Wattles, around eyes nearly purple

One of my 3 year old RIRs has been off and on sickly for months. She nearly died a couple times this past Spring and Summer from losing so much weight. I never did find the cause. Finally, she gained enough weight and energy to go back outside with her sisters. She's been outside, happy, but...

HEN NOT POOPING as she should, walking with feet turned in, tail down, heavy abdomen. HELP!!

I brought in my 3.5 yo RIR this past weekend because I noticed her standing as though she was egg bound. I've done all the typical protocol. She starting acting some better, still not eating a ton, but clearly feeling better. However, she's not pooping like she should. I put her back...

    Hen with extremely bloated abdomen

Yesterday I noticed one of my RIRs was moving slowly, walking like a penguin with her tail down. She wasn't eating much, but hadn't completely left the rest of the flock to "hide". As I usually do when one of my girls are acting strange, I brought her into the house to give her a quiet resting...

SLOW Head "jerk" (more like pulling)

1-2 days ago, I noticed one of my RIR 2.5 yr old hens was moving a bit more slowly than usual. Still doing the normal chicken activities, but in slower fashion. She's been eating, but not with excitement, and she put herself to bed a bit earlier last night. This morning she came out with the...

Dull "sticky" feathers and no laying

A couple of months ago, one of my RIR's feathers began to look dull and seemed almost "sticky." Shortly after that, her bum turned very red and hot, and became very rounded. I did all that I typically do with my hens (I have 24 of them) to help her. She seemed to do some better for a while...

Hen's belly is RED and hot to the touch!! Why?

One of my RIRs has an extremely red belly that is hot to the touch. The area looks like feathers are coming out too. I think she may also be swollen just below her vent. I didn't notice and parasites, etc. She's still eating and acting normal, but the symptoms concern me. Any thought and/or...

7 week pullet with ground crop

Any suggestions on how to help a (roughly) 7 week old pullet with a bound crop? I've treated and helped several full grown hens with success, but not one this young/small. Plus, whatever is in it feels more like one large curved object. I'm not at all sure what could be in there. I can't think...

HELP! I don't know what the problem is

One of my 17 hens, all wormed, and overall healthy, has had problems with laying off and one since she first began. She's had them stuck inside, so I bathed massaged to cause it to come out, on more than one occasion. Lately, she's not been acting too well. Although she eats, she will not...

    Feathers not growing in

I'm stumped! Last summer (2013), we had a rooster who had his "favorites" among our hens. You could tell because patches of missing feathers on their wings were made from him doing his business. This was not a concern then. I thought the feathers had begun to grow back in after we got rid of...

LIMPING CHICKEN - Is it possible to catch Bumblefoot early and take care of it?

Four days ago I noticed one of my two leghorns limping some. I did not check her simply because she's flighty, the temps were in the teens, and because she was still eating and acting otherwise normal. Then, by evening I realized that she had not laid her daily egg. The next day I was sure to...

Pale(r) combs and faces, less laying - WHY?

I have eleven 15-month old hens that had been each laying nearly an egg/day since they were about 5-months old. Then, their laying all of a sudden dropped nearly in half. We did have a round of lice a couple months before the decreased egg laying, but I see no signs of that since our few...

    Is this egg bound?

I had to bring in one of my girls the day before yesterday after noticing she was acting lethargic. I "nursed" (bathed, massaged, fed and watered) her for 24 hours, then put her back out last night. She was happy and all went well until late morning today, when she started acting sickly again...

One year old hens laying less. Is this normal?

My hens (5 RIR, 5 Cinnamon Queens, and 1 Speckled Sussex) are a littler over a year old, and have been each roughly laying 1 egg/day for months. There have been the common reasons for occasional decreased egg production, but lately it's been more common. Today we only gathered 5 eggs - we've...

HELP!! Little black flies on my rooster's head???

Yesterday I noticed my rooster shaking his head, trying to scratch it. While I couldn't see anything, it was obvious there was something there, pestering him. He's not fond of being messed with, so I am rarely able to get close enough to touch or examine him without a fight...something I avoid...

"Grey Fuzz" at base of chicken feathers under rump area - what is it?

I went out to check on my girls and noticed one of them huddled down in the corner (looked to be egg bound). She didn't move even when I threw out the afternoon scratch grains, so I knew it was serious. I brought her in and immediately placed her in a sink of warm water while massaging her to...

HELP! The neighbors roosters keep coming after my girls!

Perhaps about two months ago, while out with my girls, our neighbor (who has varying farm animals which she does NOT take care of!!) hollered over to ask how many eggs I get each day. I replied and then the very next day she had 6-8 roosters - no hens - just roosters. Now, as my neighbor does...
