My Serama None of the birds were very cooperative. I will get better pictures once they are out of their small, temporary cage and into the coop I am building for them. Here is my main roo. I think he is mottled partridge, but not really sure. He is a pretty nice little roo, but is quite camera...

    Help me decide...please?

I LOVE my Brinsea. I have the Eco 20, but will get the advance with humidity control if I can ever afford it

    The definition of fun

I seem to get more sensitive every time I get it, though haven't had it very badly for several years despite being exposed several times. Wishful thinking to try and imagine that I have developed any immunity to it, lol. My dad has never been sensitive to it ... why could I not have inherited...

    The definition of fun

I have it BAD all up and down my legs before. Fortunately I was wearing long pants (we use the weedeater without the guard, would be way too hazardous in shorts), but my arms and face were bare! I'll know in a day or two

    The definition of fun

Me too! I really think I can just LOOK at the awful stuff and break out! Being the paranoid one that I am, I finished the weedeating as fast as I could (like 15 more minutes worth) and used about half a bar of soap in the shower Hopefully I got to it soon enough!

    The definition of fun

fun [fuhn] verb, funned, fun·ning, adjective –noun 1. The sudden realization that the vines the weedeater is joyously pureeing and spewing all over you is, indeed, ivy ... of the poison variety. Oh ... joy

    marking eggs

Just an addition I just checked my markers and both my BIC Mark-It and my Sharpie fine point are labeled as nontoxic. So I'd look to see that the marker is nontoxic, and if it is, go for it.

    marking eggs

I use permanent marker all the time. The very fine ones. I can see the mark better and the markings don't show on the inside of the shell. Permanent marker won't rub off under a hen either (I have very good hatch rates (on my own eggs, I don't usually mark shipped eggs ... maybe I need to!)...

I can now put my bator away

Quote: Exactly! I have 3 broodies right now, 2 seramas (one with week-old chicks now) and a rhode island red (go figure) who is sitting on God knows how many RIR, BSL, and EE eggs covered by a barred EE roo! I hope she keeps sitting, curious about the barred/RIR cross. My bator is still...

I think he may be slightly confused... *UPDATE* *Pictures Up!*

Quote: Big Foot ... because that was the first thing I thought "that egg has a HUGE foot!"

    BCM hatch rate

I checked into it once and can't remember all the details, but there are many rather pricey hoops to jump through including, I believe, health certificates on all hens who laid any of the eggs and I think on the eggs themselves, which made a lot of sense to me. Probably NPIP too, which most...

I think I am gonna faint!!!

I had Serama chicks (from my own flock) start hatching 7 days early. Now have 6 chicks with 3 to go, but they were not due until this coming Monday! If I didn't know any better, I would think the hen had been sitting on them ... but they weren't in the pen with them for a week. It is...

Humidity under brooding hen....thought you'd like to hear this!

My first broody of the year apparently needed a water pan under her ... she had two chicks die in the egg because they were shrink wrapped. I had never seen that happen under a broody. 60% huh? Makes you wonder about the standard humidity in the incubator. Wonder what it goes up to during hatch?

    Day 14?!?!

They were gathered within a three-day period, I believe. They were kept cool, so I can't imagine how any would have started developing. I have two chicks now. The one that hatched on it's own is doing well, up and much more active today. The other pipped but was totally shrink wrapped and...

    Day 14?!?!

Ok, I put 9 of my own Serama eggs and 3 of my own Old English bantam eggs in the bator on 4/26 (according to my markings on the eggs). I candled them 4 days ago (at the day 10 mark) and had 100% development! One, unfortunately, was a quitter, so I tossed it. I thought the eggs looked more...

Do people always forget your name?

Quote: My name is spelled KRYSTLE.............. I deal with misspellings all of the time. I can be 6 inches across the counter from some one and just know they will spell it wrong so I say "My name is Krystle, let me spell it for you." I watch intently as I say very slowly and clearly "K R...

What do you think of the "Twilight" Series?

I really enjoyed the books and don't understand some people's negative attitudes toward any book. Like or dislike, that's fine. Everyone has an opinion and that's the way it should be
