I did it for a while in the spring, for 40. They loved it and it really cut down on feed costs. I still gave them free-choice pellets. It took them about a week to start really liking it. You can start it with just plain old feed, or you can jump start it with a couple "glugs" of ACV. I've...
Thanks! I need higher protein for my quail and have had an extremely difficult time finding it. I was able to special order game bird starter, but it's medicated...
I'm not real close to there, but my husband drives nearby on a fairly regular basis with his job.
Ok, I have a stupid question. Really, just ignorance on my part, but I figured I'd asked some of you first before I started making myself look stupid on other threads...LOL.
Later this year (or maybe even next year) I intend to get some Silkies for my daughter. I know NOTHING about Silkies...
If you are using an auto door between the coop and the run, then I would not worry about using hardware cloth on the run, especially for a run that large.
Use hardware cloth to secure gaps around the coop itself. Sometimes Wayfair has good prices (and free shipping) on hardware cloth.
I bought a tray for mine so the eggs were always sitting up. I did the "book method" and tilted the entire incubator a couple times per day. It seemed to work pretty well, but I only did that for one hatch.
I hope more hatch for you and you have better luck than I did. I got some (not silver) last year. After 2 mix-ups and 5 months of waiting....I finally received a crushed box of eggs. Only 10 of the 120 hatched. So disappointing. They started laying at 5 weeks and laid for about a month (back in...
My dark egg layers aren't laying, so I just have Sex linked EEs. Needing observations from someone more experienced....my very first attempt at hatching my own eggs.
Am roo over barred SBEL....are these two boys or four boys? Two of them have very faint dots and two are large dots (fifth chick...

6"+... This is as far out of the coop as they would venture. That's a little Basque pullet in the bottom right corner, she's the bravest and would actually tip-toe a few feet further out.
I read an article on FB earlier that stated they found positive cases in NINE other nearby farms, affecting an estimated 200,000 turkeys. We have gotten a late start to migration in the east...I'm hoping this doesn't continue to spread so quickly!
ETA: Sorry, meant to quote the previous...
Hallelujah! It's a girl!
After a rough two weeks, I've discovered I do indeed have one pullet. I posted pics a couple weeks ago and was pretty sure all six were cockerels in different stages of maturing. I picked out two that I wanted to keep and sequestered the other four to a huge, in-coop...
Black/split #4---I was pretty sure this ONE was a pullet, but it has really long neck feathers. Also notice it has zero tail feathers!
I apologize for the multiple posts. I'm trying to figure what to keep. I am only keeping one Roo. I'm not supposed to have ANY chickens and I have about...
