To answer some questions: I am doing this to earn money...hopefully starting a small business :) It cost about $300, give, or take. I have seen a lot of the prefab coops, which are smaller and the materials are flimsy, go for $400+. I recall seeing a William-Sonoma coop of the same style go for...

Hello, everyone! I need your input on my new coop, please :) I want to sell it, but I am not sure what to ask. Solid construction, 16 gauge wire, 3 nest boxes, plexiglass windows. The flip door is magnetic, so no need for locks. 2 coats of exterior primer and 2 coats of exterior paint. The coop...

I agree and I was going to caulk the drafts, but winter caught me and I will have to wait till Spring to caulk. I only use the plastic around the 2-foot summer gaps to keep the high winds out and will remove it in the spring. I will be updating all the caulking and adding another room on the...

No, not outside-outside which is weird since he was the only one that shows these extreme symptoms. This was before the heat. I have wrapped a lot of the coop in plastic to keep the wind out, so it's harder to see the lights Where can I find out about chickenstock?

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Yes, he was outside in the coop, but the others seem ok. I have never seen this either, so I am hoping the swelling goes down in a couple of days. One other rooster has swollen waddles, but not nearly as bad, so I left him outside. I turned on the heat in the coop and it is keeping steady at...

Thanks! I am glad my sitter caught it or he would have died. It took him almost 8 hours to even open his eyes and start eating. He is all cozy in the house and the coop will be heated until this cold passes!!

I do not have the means to do anything like that anyway. He will be spoiled until he is fit to return outside.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone have any advice on swollen waddles? Obviously it is because of the cold and the rooster is inside and starting to come back to life and all the others are fine. He did drink a little water. Just want to know if anyone has advice on what to do now?

    sebright thread

There are a lot of factors to consider...weather, light, coop conditions, diet, etc. It was -40 with the wind chill and they kept right on laying. The coop was between 10 and 20 on most days, but I kept their diet veggie heavy with constant fresh water. Your chicks should acclimatize to the...

    Cleaning a chicken run

My run is also 12X16 and is covered so they can go outside in the weather. I left it dirt and I use a tiller every so ofter (once a month maybe). Keeps the ground fresh and there is no smell.
