    No Luck with Lavender

I used to do amazing with lavender, but recently( Like a month ago but oh well) bought some seeds and tried growing them with no luck. I started them indoors too, and followed what I usually do, with more dry soil and good drainage. I guess either I off balanced soil or got some bad seeds.

    Delayed hatch?

They do have same lay date. So I guess I'll just wait.

    Delayed hatch?

I have a broody on two eggs, and apparently one hatch last night or early morning. How long should it take for the other to start pipping? And when is a hatch considered delayed? I'm excited(they're sex linked silkie X leghorn) but don't want one of them to be dead!

Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Ah haven't been on in such a long time... still battling the litter bugs who keep throwing all their trash in my truck bed and the walmart buggies. How is everyone?

    Opinions on best egg layers

I didn't see any threads on it but some replies have said they disliked the white color because of predation issues, which I do agree on but if someone still likes the breed but not the color, they could get browns instead.

Of course the hatchery/factory stock are all white. But associating the whole breed as just being only white is a little unreasonable. True whites and browns are much more prettier to me anyway. Just personal preference lol.

I noticed a lot of people have been associating Leghorns with being white--not all are white and there's actually a great amount of color variety all the while laying amazing great. Still personality, but if you're afraid of them being picked off because color, you could look into the brown or...

Things to use for injured chicken?

My rooster and the other ganged up on my favorite barred rock bantam. She has a neck wound but no puncture to the actual muscle. Is there anything I can use in place of vetericyn(I think that is what it's called?) while she's in medical bay in the washroom? She can eat and drink fine but I don't...

Leghorns are great as long as you respect their love of freedom. Mine are amazing layers, and can be really sweet until you get too close for their comfort. They are truly freebirds in terms of personality. Let's also remember broodiness has practically been bred out of them, so they're less...

The Big Fat Is This A Rooster? Thread

When they try to crow they'll stretch out their neck and breathe in as much air as their little lungs can hold. I'm not sure when hackles come in on a Maran's but I'd say about 4-9 months is when they should start showing for typical roosters .

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

See, the human reproductive system is something they all want to learn about. The moment I told them how the love birds just do a 'cloacal kiss' and telling them that roosters don't have an extension, their facial disgust raised quite a bit! I know it is a bit gross, but come on. If you're...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

I did a speech over eggs on monday and I'm pretty sure my classmates will not be eating eggs anytime soon after seeing what the reproductive tract looks like, and telling them about all the parts...many of them stared at me with a mix of awe and disgust, and I sorta feel bad....but oh well...

Cochins are more prone to going broody though--thus less egg laying when they are broody. I do love cochins though, very sweet birds!

My leghorns aren't mean but they are flighty...as long as I let them finish laying they just stay away from me. They are also curious a lot too, but flutter away into white tornadoes as soon as I reach out my hand. My sex link is very docile and lays everyday with the leghorns; I mean 7 days...

    Tractor Supply Chicks

Don't be too quick too judge by the colors on them---these are hatchery birds, they only loosely represent the breed and are not exactly as true as the show quality counterparts. When I got barred rock males in with my order last year I could've sworn I had two females; and I only had one in...
