I have inherited a few hens a couple of weeks ago and one of them is not laying eggs. I was told this hen is only two years old. I'm not sure what breed it is yet. It's a large white fluffy hen. I was told she would lay big brown eggs and we haven't gotten any from her yet. Is it possible that...
I also get calcium deposits on a certain green egg every now and then. I too wouldn't withhold the calcium. Maybe that certain hen is a calcium horder.

So I guess I should let them rest most of winter. I think I might extend the light for a couple of weeks then give them a break.
Thank you all for your info.
I want my new hens to lay eggs in the winter and I heard that they will if you put a light out in the coop. How long should I keep the light on out there? And is there anything else I can do?

Most are the same size. I do have 3 bantams but they seem to stay out of it. It's mostly my 3 ee's picking on the new 3 ee's.
Do most chickens carry dieseases?
Thankyou peepkeeper. It is hard to be patient though when I am so excited for there first eggs. I can't wait!
We'll put out the light today.
Thanks again.
I just adopted 3 new hens and my other hens and rooster are very mean to the new comers. They are constantly pecking them and keeping them in a corner. Will this behavior change? If so how soon?
( all chickens are the same age if that matters)
My hens are only 6 months old and no eggs yet. I want them to lay through the winter but I heard they don't do that. If I run a light out to the coop will that help?
