    Hatching at high altitude

Wow! I guess I need a cabinet incubator... But that may need to wait until next year. I'll be setting some of my own eggs in about 2 - 3 months. Still have 3 roos to cull this weekend.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I've got 3 barred mixed breeds. All of them appear to have saddle type feathers, but only one has larger irredecent tail feathers and is trying to crow. Plus, this one is also starting to get 'staining' at the base of the saddle. My trio is now 3.5 - 4 months old, and were intended to be OE, if...

The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

There was someone that crossed her BR hen with her WLeghorn roo, and hatched out a pullet that started to lay lavender eggs... I think for that experiment you would need a BR that already lays those pink tinted brown eggs. Not sure. Even further back, there was a woman that ordered Croad...

Cedar Creek Hatchery - KEEP AWAY!

My horrible email adventure for what was to be Brahma eggs Eddie with a single hatchling (the only 1 that developed after Day 5). She has slate colored clean legs! Brahmas are to have yellow, feathered legs. They can't even keep their eggs organized. Anyone feel like reviewing a letter to the...

This link is for someone that posted their experience. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/821868/mealworm-farm It is pretty informative and also speaks to the time it takes. I've been thinking about doing this, but just haven't made the time. Have fun!

I've heard they don't lay well in the heat or the cold. They like it temperate. Has it been too hot or too cold where you are? Have you tried to give her some crushed red pepper flakes?

I plant mine with a cup of sand below and mulch above/around. Then I fold wire fencing over it like a box to keep out everything I can.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

I order the metal adjustable bands from Stromberg's. They say 9-13, but they work for my Brahma, EE, Rock, and Maran girls. They also have size 13-16 if you have roosters.

I make peach ice cream, but with actual peach puree ice cream and chunks of peaches (like they make strawberry ice cream. In fact I have to use a strawberry ice cream recipe! The whole family loves it. So, we end up eating ice cream and salads for dinner. LOL!

All of my barred chicks with diffused head spots are pullets, and the 1 with a very defined spot is a roo. At 10 weeks now it's a sure thing, with the half crow starting.

Hatching shipped eggs at high elevation.

I will have 2 more bator runs this fall. I am turning on the bator tomorrow to get ready. Already have some Langshan eggs on the way next week. What I have learned for elevation 8150: 1. Temperature should be higher for me (101.5 F) 2. CO2 must be countered - most effective way is to add soda...

From what I've been reading, it puts pressure on their vocal cords so they still crow, but it's greatly reduced. Sounds interesting. We can have any chickens we want up here, but since our neighbors are close I was trying to figure out how to reduce the noise. I think I could make one pretty...

Has anyone ever heard of anti- crow collars? There is a woman on Facebook that sells them. You have to measure the roosters neck and it costs $14/, but it claims to reduce their crow to around 10 - 15% of their crow without the collar. It looks like the wrist bands from Flashdance!

    Hatching at high altitude

Well, like I thought we have 13 new chicks in the brooder now. They are the roundest most active chicks we've hatched, save for 1. That 1 more seems a bit concerning, but I am doing what I can with ensuring that it gets sugar water every few hours. So, we will see, but I do not want to try too...
