One of our hens got stuck between something (probably all day) and couldn't move or eat/drink. Now she won't walk or stand- why would this be? Her legs couldn't have been broken the way she was, and when I turn her upside down, she is able to easily move both her legs. Her wings seem fine as...
I can't tell if my silver laced Wyandotte is really a hen. She isn't crowing, but her tail feathers and comb make me suspicious. She's almost 12 weeks old.
I have a hard time getting photos because she's so skittish, but let me know if these are good enough:

I'm just curious- which of your chickens is the friendliest or most lovable, and which one is the most skittish?? Did it change from when they were chicks to adults?
My chicks are only 2 weeks old, but my most friendly is one of my Barred Plymouth Rocks (Pepper)- she loves me- jumps on my...
My chicks aren't in the coop yet, but what size feeder do you need for 8 standard hens so that I'm not having to re-fill it multiple times a day?
I'm looking at this one (they also have a 10lb one, but I wanted the lighter one in case I hang it from the ceiling)...
We bought this coop (the CC-78-R2-H to be exact) http://cconly.com/coop__hutches/cc-78_series but I'm worried about the roosts since they are lower than the nesting boxes. DH built the entire coop, and then I made him remove the roof because I think we need to add another roost that is above...
I think I've only seen runs on grass, dirt, etc. Ours is going on our side yard, which is all concrete.
Anyone have their run on concrete? What did you put on the floor, and how did you clean it?
Can I ask some VERY beginner questions? I've done so much research, but I feel like I haven't found anything on the very very basic logistics of what happens when the chicks move to their coop, start laying, etc.
So assuming you put your hens in the coop at night, what do they do in there...
I'm new to all this so sorry for all the questions, and thank you for all your help!
So I've read that hens can lay as early as 16 weeks, and that they don't lay at all in winter due to less sun?
I live in Southern California with very temperate climate...it's common for us to be at 78...
My chicks are only a day old, but the kids have been saving crickets and june bugs for them and are dying to feed them! Can I give them bugs yet or is it too soon?
Also, I read that mashed up hard boiled eggs are good for them- starting when?
And then when can you start giving them table...
We just picked up our chicks this morning (six of them), which flew from Ohio to California. They are all eating and drinking non-stop except the Buff Orpington. She's kind of a loner, and I never see her eat and drink, while the others do nothing but eat and drink.
She is alert, and no one...
I just ordered 6 chicks (hens), which will arrive mid-July. I want to make sure I have everything ready when they arrive! I have the basics, brooder, sand, heat lamp, feeder, waterer.
But are there other essentials? Meyer offered a bunch of stuff at check out that I didn't buy. Do you need...
We are first-timers, and I think we want to order from Meyer, but we are in California so I'm worried about such a long trip for the chicks! We do have a few local feed stores with chicks, but I'm particular regarding breeds, and I'm not confident that the feed stores are as diligent in sexing...
We are brand new to chicken ownership- haven't even ordered them yet! Thanks to this forum, I think we are ordering from Meyer, but I'm having a hard time finding the right coop. We plan on getting 5-6 standards.
Does anyone have this coop...
