Our ladies demand to be let out of their coop at sunrise. They do so by calling very, very loud. We have close neighbors and live in an area where chickens are no so much legal, so we do all we can to keep them quiet. In this case, it means jumping out of bed at 5 am.
"Chicken Time Out"...
We have three gals who live in a two story coop at night and are let out in a 40' x 30' fenced yard during the day to forage. Problem is, once the sun comes up, they start calling for us to let them out. Then they will holler for treats/company during the day. Have we already ruined...
We have a pullet who started displaying weird symptoms on Sunday. Every 60 seconds or so, she opens her mouth partway but doesn't do anything. She has also started moving more slowly than normal, and just acting a little tired, but will pep up when we go to round them up or offer treats...
King Brand feed is carried at all my closest feed stores here. I know a lot of people on this board like Purina Layena, though. Can you tell from this info if King Brand is a decent food? I am a new to this only have four pet layers, and want to try to give them the best. Thanks so much for...
We have our first egg! I am so excited. Courtesy of our 21 week old Rhode Island White named Batman. Can't wait for breakfast!
(Batman is the one in front - what a good girl today!)
I'm hearing here that a lot of folks like Purina Layena. All my feed stores carry is a local brand, which I hear isn't the best. Has anyone found a good place to buy Purina Layena online? I only ave 4 chickens, so I don't need huge qantities, but also don't want to get killed with shipping costs.
I came home to a chicken with blood on her comb. Some was relatively fresh, some had started to scab. It's hard to tell if she ripped it or if she hit her head hard on something. She has some crusted blood around her nostrils. There are splatters of blood on the feeder.
I watched them for...
The ladies aren't even laying yet, but today one gal's egg song woke the neighborhood. Anything we can do to quiet it down? Or, are there any coops/sheds we could purchase that would dull the noise?
Help!
We have one 10 week old pullet to introduce to three bonded pullets (two are 13 weeks, one is 14 weeks). We have the ten week old in a dog crate that the older chicks can see from the coop and plan to take this slow, but any advice?
We thought the older gals would be fine with it, since they...
Here's Jane, our 12 week old EE. We're starting to wonder if she is a he, as her comb has become darker and more prominent in the past week. She's lowest in the pecking order in our small flock, hasn't made a sound, and is our shyest bird. She does like to run up into the other pullet's...
I see them referred to a lot on here, but it's not in the Chicken Glossary section. I am assuming it's an extra "surprise" chick you get when you order via the mail, but I could be totally wrong with this....help a newbie out!
All I seem to have in my area is King Brand http://www.king-brand.com/product_listing.php#4 I see lots of people posting about Purina...is King a decent feed?
