    Advice

We had one chick hatch this morning so my math was WAY off. Lol I'm leaving the baby with Mom and they seem to be doing very well. I am bringing some chick feed this evening.

    Advice

I have two hens (sisters) who are sharing two eggs that are viable and within days of hatching. We have to guess because I don't know exactly when they were laid. Can I let the sisters hatch their babies and leave the babies with them or should I remove the eggs and put them in an incubator? If...

How much do they charge there? I'd be fine, either getting her back or letting them sell her if that's what they do. I think my bosses wouldn't want her back. They're sad this even has to happen.

    California - Northern

Good afternoon all. About a month and a half ago someone dumped a chicken at my job site. It was young, maybe a week. In the time we've had her, she has quintupled in size! She's a Cornish Cross hen and she doesn't walk well and wheezes when she clucks. Plus she's the messiest, smelliest...

    California - Northern

Hello! Does anyone know of a duck/goose rescue in Northern Cali or, perhaps, know someone looking for a pair of Chinese Swan geese, two black and white Runner ducks and one Cayuga? We need to re-home them

    Muscovy duck Q&A

I figured it might take a couple of weeks. I know the female muscovy's get their feathers first but since this little one is muscovy/Cayuga, we'll just have to wait and see. :)

    Muscovy duck Q&A

No. I wish we did, though. She laid nine eggs but only one was good. We had to toss the duds because the whole barn stunk of rotten egg. I made sure to candle before we tossed them, just to be sure. She's actually ok with us handling him. He fell out of the nest so I picked him up and put him...

How to introduce new chickens to the flock

I have a question. I have one game bird mix which is just about laying age (any day now) and two 12 week old females (I hope). The game bird has been in an enclose cage for closed to a month so that they can get to know each other gradually. I allowed her out for some free play and the rooster...

    Muscovy duck Q&A

I'm not sure if the little has pipped internally. Mom is pretty agressive right now. I guess I'm just behaving like a nervous parent. Lol I've hatched chicken eggs but never a duck egg. This is a new experience. :)

    Muscovy duck Q&A

So I checked my muscovy's egg and the duckling is pipping but no zipping yet. There is a little bit of membrane showing and it's turned yellow but it's unbroken. Is there a point where I need to step in and help? I'd hate for it to not survive. It's been so long since she clutched. It's now been...

    Muscovy duck Q&A

You can candle them to see if you can find the blastoderm on the yolk. It usually shows as a spot on the yolk. If you take a bright flashlight, hold it right against the egg while it's dark. :)

How long do ducks take to hatch?

Oldish post, so I'm sorry if there's another place to post this. My muscovy laid 9 eggs but only one was fertile. I miscounted the days since she laid 4 eggs one day and about three days later, laid five more. I thought the baby would hatch on Easter but there was no activity. I thought the egg...

    Geese

I don't believe she's being bullied but it's possible people in the neighborhood who pass by might be harassing the birds. Yes, we have a gander. He's been attempting to breed with her but I don't know how successful he's been. Could be frustration?

    Geese

It's been a while since the last post but I have a question about my two Chinese Geese. On a normal day, they will run away from me but tonight, the female goose actually came up to me and started nibbling on my clothes, rubbing her head on my legs and allowed me to both pet and pick her up...

Quick question: I have a Muscovy female who has been having watery, runny stools. Could coccidiosis be a potential culprit?
