Muscovy duck Q&A

Quick question,. When buying fertile eggs online what is the procedure. Can I put right in the incubator tilted with the aircell up
For best results, I'd let the eggs rest at room temperature, large end up, for 12-24 hours before placing in your preheated incubator. This allows the air cells to stabilize/reposition properly (as needed).

x2 I let mine sit for 24 hours and then I don't start turning them for another 24 hours. How far are the eggs traveling to get to you? Be sure to let your post office know when you are expecting them so you can pick them up at the post office. You don't want them throwing them on a truck and out for a bumpy delivery

Quick question: I have a Muscovy female who has been having watery, runny stools. Could coccidiosis be a potential culprit?

A duck's poop is directly related to what it is eating. Any changes in food? Does it free range. Intestinal parasite infestations usually show them selves as lameness/paralysis. Is she eating/drinking and preening?

Hi. She was fed watermelon through the fencing a few days ago. It's the only new food she's had since at least December. She stays in a pen at night but we allow her to free range during the day. She eats the worms that have been coming up because of the rains.

I don't think it is Cocci. Watermelon is a natural diuretic. It is 92 percent water and contains nutrients that stimulate urination. As long as all else is normal just give her a few days.
