2 day old chick...keeps flipping over on its back

Okay, I did put it in the brooder box, and it is actually standing now...but it holds its head twisted around so its head is resting on its left wing...I've seen it move it the other direction, but it always keeps it like this when resting. Any thoughts?

2 day old chick...keeps flipping over on its back

I have a chick that hatched yesterday, and although it "looks" okay, it keeps rolling over onto its back. No matter how many times I roll it the right way, it always ends up on its back. It's alert and chirps and moves its legs around, but I don't know what to do. It's still in the incubator...

Dropped to 96 will they survive?

I lost power with my last hatch and was freaking out too, because the temp dropped (I think it was around 90). It was like that for around an hour, but I had 22 hatch out of 36. Good luck!

    Need first time incubating advice

I would let your incubator sit for a day to make sure the temp. is staying where it needs to be. Your eggs will be okay until then. I put some eggs into my current hatch that sat out for 12 days before I put them in and they are developing! I also put some in straight from the nest box and...

Day 22 and one last egg pipped but hasn't hatched, I have questions...

Well, I am by no means an expert, but I did just have a fairly successful hatch of 22 chicks out of 34 (some of those were not fertile). I opened my incubator every day to take chicks out for a week, while others were in there that had already pipped, and they all ended up just fine. I just...

    Chick with a crooked leg

Is it a newly hatched chick? I had one that came out of its shell with a leg that was almost pointing backwards, and after about a day it was totally fine. I think it was just really twisted in the shell. But if yours is older, I'm no help...sorry!

    MARCH HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Well, out of my 34 eggs, 21 hatched and I just sold them all...that was the plan, but it's still kind of sad . Anyway, I'm sticking a new batch in the incubator tonight for someone else...wish me luck!

    Standard Vs Bantam

I don't know about that breed in particular, but my bantam hens lay more consistently than my standard hens, even through the colder months. They're a lot friendlier too .

    MARCH HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Quote: So sorry about the chick. Would it help to bandaid it maybe like a splint to help? He's actually starting to stand on it more normally now! Maybe it was just stuck in a weird position from being in the shell? Hopefully it just keeps getting better

Do I change the temp. when I move eggs out of turner???

Ok, I'll keep an eye on the temp. for a while. I hate adjusting it because it can go up so quickly even if I just move it a tiny bit. Maybe I won't need to. Thanks for the help!

Do I change the temp. when I move eggs out of turner???

I just took the eggs out of the turner for their final few days before hatching (although some have about a week left) and I'm wondering if I need to adjust the temp now that they're lower in the incubator?? It's reading at a lower temp. on top of the eggs than it was before. (about 2 degrees...

Building a chicken run. Need advice!

We used a chain link dog run for our chicken run. I don't know what the length and width are...maybe 10 feet by 5 feet?...but it is taller than I am (I think it's 6 feet) and has a walk through door. We cut a hole in the other end that attaches to the chicken door of the coop. We covered it...

    MARCH HATCH-A-LONG come join in

I would like to join also! I have 30 eggs in the incubator that should start hatching March 5. They are all kinds of crosses with possibly some non-crossed Mille Fluers also. I'm hatching them for someone that wants to buy them from me, so wish me luck! I candled some last night and saw the...

Thanks for the encouragement! When could I candle them successfully do you think? I thought I could do it at 3 days? Should I wait a couple more days now that this has happened?
