Automatic Coop Door Opener Recommendations - Ontario

We have RentACoop door.. I'd link but I can't remember if Amazon links are allowed. It eats batteries like crazy and froze shut 3 times last winter.. It's a cool idea, I can set by daylight or timed, but overall I just eventually sealed my run and jammed it open.. The daylight setting didn't...

    Preserving "lacing" in breeding

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm sorry for slow reply.. For some reason I didn't see the notifications on this. I was really excited to try this whole experiment out, but for now it has been stalled.. The solo gold laced cochin chick in question failed to thrive. :(

    Preserving "lacing" in breeding

Hey guys! I want to pick the brains of some of you all. :) I ordered eggs online through a supplier in AL and ultimately thanks to package handling I'm $250+ later and I have a single golden laced cochin chick. I'm working with USPS on the claim regarding handling issues, but that's neither...

    Show me your Runs!...please 😇

Runs! I have one main 16x24 run with an 8x8 coop that is my catch-all. It houses my BCM, my EE to produce OE with the marans roo, and my brown "eating egg" layers. Then one 8x16 that houses 8 seramas, and two more 8x24 pens. One holds an ameraucana roo and barred rock hens for sexlink EE, and...

Comment by 'Faerhii' in item 'MagicFly Digital Mini Fully Automatic Egg Incubator'

I guess I'm the odd person out on this one.. I LOVE my magicfly tabletop. I run it constantly from mid-March to Mid-August churning out serama chicks every 21 days. If my hens can keep up and I place the slots right on the turner, it can accomodate 12-15 tiny serama eggs. I run it on a table...

What did you do in the garden today?

I'm not sure where you're located, but here in Arkansas I just find a neighbor with what I want and ask. My preferred is rabbit, but I take horse too.

What did you do in the garden today?

Something like that, haha! I'm not too sure myself, someone mentioned it amd off to google I went.. This is what I've mapped out, with basil and marigolds sporadically planted..

What did you do in the garden today?

So.. Anyone have tips on companion planting? I drew up a map that I'll share in a moment, but curious if anyone has tried it for veggies.

    Hello! :wee

    Mystery breed...

Probably an EE, the cheeks likely come from ameraucana used for the blue egg component. And then something barred for the barring. Likely ameraucana and barred rock since that produces sex linked babies.

Making rows when it's 85 degrees out is miserable.

    Hen or Roo?

The gray in the back is a Sapphire Gem "pullet".. Wish they bred true!

    Hen or Roo?

I love my Yell bird! :lau #3 roostered early 5 weeks old..

Which breeds have you had good egg production from?

I have 24 pullets. Australorps, Buff Orphingtons, Barred Rock, and Silver Laced Wyandottes. My Wys are my worst layers. My Australorps are my best. I can tell my Australorp eggs apart. They've laid 7 eggs a week since they reliably started laying.. They had a starter phase with less, but built...

    Hen or Roo?

Bonus content.. All my kids from that hatch.. My fluffy solid gray and solid white pullets from that hatch are pretty nifty beside all that lacing. It also produced a solid black with a silver laced belly.

    Hen or Roo?

Welcome to another exciting game of "is it a roo?" Todays contestants are barnyard mix.. Most are from "EE" hens (so who really knows!), and all were fathered by a Silkie/Silver-Laced Wyandotte Roo. #1 - "The Grump" This one stands up its neckfeathers at other chickens A LOT. Pretty sure...

(Long Post) "Neighbor" dog killed 2 pullets **TRICKY SITUATION**

... Don't "almost" hit it next time. 🤷‍♀️ Seriously though, I would press Grandma to call the tenants. She needs to draw a line in the sand so y'all can enforce. Taking the dog to a shelter isn't a bad idea either. 100%, I would make sure they know you're legal to kill doggy in defense of...

Would love some thoughts on my coop design!

I'll change up the perches asap, thanks! And the bottom 3 feet are hardware cloth, and we're looking at new options for the top half. :)

Would love some thoughts on my coop design!

Ground predators consist of loose dogs, raccoons, and possibly a possum or skunk. We are fortunate to have not seen anything bigger on our security cameras. Honestly, we haven't even seen any raccoons, possums, or skunks. We have a 12" outward pointing apron buried and the edge is topped off...

Would love some thoughts on my coop design!

Right now the completed coop has 25 chickens in it at roughly 15sq ft of yard space per bird. By the time I'm done, I'll have almost 1800 sq ft of yard over 4 coops without factoring in the integration pens that will just be additional yard when not in use. :) The bottom 3' are 1/2" hardware...
