I am very excited that I found a hatchery that sells pullets that lay white eggs. It almost seems impossible to find pullets that lay anything but brown, green, blue, etc...
I grew up with chickens that laid brown eggs...is it too much to ask for a chicken that lays white shell eggs?
with a smaller flock, a lot of birds are attacking one bird...what to do? i pulled "him" out and isolated with his own food and water. he is a capon...but has curled toes from Bresse Farms...the rest of the flock pecked at the back of his head. i put bactine on it and have been nursing "his"...
"free range." ---Your chickens can leave where you live and never come back because you live in an area with no fences...agreed..."free range."
not "free range"---you have any defined area whether it be 1 acre or 1000 acres of space with fences to keep your chickens from "free ranging"...that's...
where...you no longer know how many chickens you have?

I am going to take away food at 24 hrs and water at 12 hrs. I have adequate light plus magnification and two helpers. I wasn’t planning to use suture or cyanoacrylate. However, I am open to insight...any other instruments that you would recommend? I am going to start on left side and try to get...
Background...i’ve never caponized a cockerel.
i’m a dentist...i work with instruments in tight quarters and most of what i do is just surgery in the mouth.
i’ve read the book from Stromberg...bought the instrument set...which i’ll replace half of with actual surgical stuff from my...
I am going to design a coop with a breeze across the roosts that are situated below the nesting boxes...with no bedding in the coop...no auto door...one nesting box for 24....
what else can you recommend that would be obviously against conventional wisdom? i want to try all of it!...and i bet...
If you want a great feeder, buy a 200 lb hog feeder. they’re cheap and will supply a flock of 25 for weeks. add a 50 gallon food safe barrel with metal nipples for water, auto door, and back roll out nests...you can leave for two weeks and not worry.
I have 24 chickens. Due to a few hens laying eggs on the coop floor, I split the coop in half with 2x6 boards just high enough to keep deep bedding only under the roosts and have no bedding on the other half where I keep the water, feed, oyster shells and roll out nesting boxes. On the side with...
friends, i’ve got my first round of meat birds coming. i’ve grown up doing this but it’s the first time i am in the driver’s seat. i have 60 white bresse, 15 blue and 15 black. i have brooder set up with a heater for 90 birds that hangs from the ceiling in a room that’s roughly 8x13. then they...
My whole life we’ve only had chickens that lay brown eggs. I know egg color doesn’t matter...but with my next flock I want chickens that lay white eggs...just for novelty. What is the preferred chicken for medium to large white eggs?
We just left home for 8 days...first time for so long during COVID. with 24 chickens...auto chicken run door, gravity water, hog feeder, and seedling heated roll outs...no biggie. i did have people stopping by every other day to grab eggs...but not to give them food or water...and the roll outs...
I assume that many of you have kids, activities and travel. What are the essential chicken coop “hacks” to make chickens as low maintenance as possible? If you want to leave for a weekend or a week, what are the best coop modifications to make that seamless?
I am restoring my grandparent’s egg cleaning machine. it is basically a dry, fine sand paper belt that cleans 12 eggs at a time. my grandparents used to have 1200 chickens and sold eggs to the hatchery and for consumption. i’ve been looking online to find other “dry” cleaning machines and can’t...
