So I have a mini fridge incubator and the temps I'm able to get is either 98-99 or 99-100 degrees. The heat source is a ring around the top with a pic fan pulling air up through the eggs and blows the air back down around the walls (eggs are pretty much center). My thermostat is set at 103 but...
He is around 2 years old and has always had this. It's not a scared area. It is like the feathers grow in different directions as cowlicks do, but with feathers instead. Has anyone else had chickens like this? Do you know what causes this and if its hereditary? I havn't hatched any eggs...
The comb is telling me male. It's the hackle color that makes me think hen, but your guess will be better then mine. I can't tell if the saddle and hackle feathers are long and pointy or round. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Sorry if it's not the best of picture quality.
I have a couple bantam salmon faverolles in the incubator and on the 15 to 16 day the power went out for almost 24 hours. I tried as hard as I could to keep the temp around 100 degrees but it stayed around 95 with a couple of bad drops to around 80 degrees. Do you think there is any hope?
He/She is a little over 3 weeks old. I know it's early and how hard it is to sex EE. Sorry if pictures are blurry. They were took with a phone. Any opions are welcome.
Thanks.
What determines if EEs will lay blue or green eggs? Does the comb or beard have anything to do with it? Like if it has both pea comb and really fluffy beard is it more likely to lay the blue eggs?
Thanks to any of you who replies:)
He/She is my 3rd generation chick who is also the only one. Friday the 25th He/She will be four weeks old. I hope the pictures are goog enough for determining gender.
Thanks for any help.
Update/Edit
Still thinking Girl? Eight weeks old.
I have a big barred rock rooster who I thought was a hen. Now I know he is a rooster because of his saddle feathers and wattles, his comb isn't that big for a rooster I think and I havn't ever seen him crow or mate a hen. Does he think that he is a hen? and is there any thing I can do to get...
Okay I have wanted to ask this question for a while now. If you have light orange eye color and breed it to a dark black almost eye colored silkie what could the off spring be? Or is there a lot more genetics then just appearance?
Could you take some time to help me. I have a buff silkie hen and i'm not sure of her buff color, Its like a splash under coat or something. I know nothing of genetics.
At the tips of her wing feathers she has white and blue feathers. I don't know who her parents are.
And what would the...
This is day 19 and I checked under my brooby silkie hen to find this egg
I took it inside and damped the membrane and covered it with a wet rag
It head is right in the middle of the whole. The egg is crushed, but I believe the chick is still alive.
He has muff single comb yellow to pain legs red ear lobes. His feathers are like... half silkie feathers and half normal I guess
Does it look like he small a small vaulted skull?
Sorry but this is the only picture I have for now
I am building a homemade incubator 30 inches by 30 inches and 12 inches high. I would like to hear what yall think would be the best and the most cheap heating source? I'm thinking Flex Watt Heat tape?
Thanks for any suggestions!
