The main flock of 18 sleep on 2 roosts in the 4X8 coop.. ( they sleep there then go free range once awake). however I have 5 who were raised by Miss Priss in the duck coop which is a hoop coop covered in a tarp on 3 sides and wire only in the front. they are sleeping on top a couple bales of...

    Muscovy roost ideas wanted

Well of my 30 or so ducks, I have 8 that are still hanging out in the duck coop at night. The rest bailed for the pond.... I noticed that 4 are crowded on top of a tote which is used as a nesting box ( currently by a chicken with chicks. One hen is sitting on eggs in another open top box, and...

are eggs in the center of the nest the newer or older eggs?

My guinea hens and ducks lay their eggs in a pattern I have seen.. but I cant tell if the new eggs are laid in the center of the nest and older eggs pushed out, or if the newer eggs are rolled out to the exterior of the circle. Anyone know for sure?

duckie keeps landing on his back. Help

My hen is a crappy mom.. She got off the nest with a few eggs still hatching. At least 2 ducklings piped but I think they got to cold before completing hatch and died. 2 eggs were still chirping so I brought them into the brooder which was 96o and 65% humidity naturally. the one was beginning to...

Why isnt this one dry looking?

This baby muscovey hatched about 18 hours ago. Its the only one who has hatched. Duckie's backend looks dry but...

    Guinea keet hatching seems "stuck"

my keets began hatching 2 days earlier than expected. So far 11 of the 40 have hatched. Two are almost unzipped but this guy had been pretty close to this stage for over 12 hours. Typically I never see the guineas hatch because they pip, unzip and hatch much much faster than chickens. should I...

Muscovy sitting on guinea eggs.. any suggestions?

So I have been getting 3-4 eggs a day I think from 8 guineas. I long ago gave up trying to figure out who's a boy and who's a girl. The guineas have 6 metal nesting boxes in their run, but no one uses them. A duck however thought the tote in there made a great nest and is sitting on a clutch...

Just need to rant.. Why do hens change nests?

I have a muscovy hen who has been sitting on a clutch for a few weeks already. This morning when I went to unlock the coop ( I allow everyone to free range during the day. 2 hens are sitting in this coop, 2 hens are dropping in to lay and 3 drakes come visiting as well. One hen sitting in the...

    Duck keeps escaping..

I have muscovies which are NOT small birds. My duck house is a hoop coop made of cattle fencing. Over the top is a tarp which is relatively tight. the bottom 4 feet also has a layer of redbrand wire 2X4" Seriously can't imagine a 7 pound hen getting through that. never had a predator problem...

I am almost done tryhing to keep guineas......

Seriously I dont know what more i can do... I must have raised up at least 30 keets over the last year and I think I am down to 7 or 8. usually I lose them to stupidity before they are completely grown.. like landing in front of a cat, or flying into the dog 's yard and not realizing they can...

roo or hens? about 8 weeks

Looks like my easteregger and barred rock in the second pic ( could be the leghorn roo) and the 2 white ones are most likely california X (leghorn) with a leghorn roo. ( could be Barred rock but I dont see that). The adult hen in the pic is NOT related to anyone, she is just the foster mom...
