    Deep litter method

I use ashes all year for ammonia control. Plus it keeps many of the pests that need moisture under control as well. The coop will get really dusty, but in the long run, humidity and ammonia smell are controlled better with ash.

    nesting box size? Dresser?

I think that it would work fine. Just put your "floors" and dividers in and your good to go. Plus if you need to, you could put it under the roosts with some linoleum on it and it could double as a poop board.

Request PHOTOS of your nesting box

I got mine at Menards. But I suspect that you could get them at Walmart, or any store that carries organization and storing stuff. I love that you can just hose them out, when they get dirty. Best part is that they come right out, pull them apart and hose them down. These will go in the...

    LICE!!!!!!!!!!!

No, just wash them off and they are fine. Sevin doesn't get in their systems it just kills from the outside. Now if you use some of the spot on stuff, I believe you have to withdraw from the eggs.

Am I too late to change things with her setup

Well, she went out for a stroll, so I cleaned it up, and made her a brand new nest, and moved all of the feathers over to it and then set the eggs back in. Managed to get the crate cleaned too. Only took about 10 minutes tops. She's back on the eggs and happy as a bug.

    Help! Candling Blue Americana eggs!

For my EE eggs I had to build a make shift candling box with a fairly bright bulb in it, and then also use an LED Flashlight as well. One on top and one on the bottom.

    LICE!!!!!!!!!!!

^^^^^^^ Follow this and you will be fine. I just got done doing my 2nd treatment for the 10 day span and cleaned the coop at the same time. I used all sevin for everything, from the roosts to the cracks to the birds. The powder puff application for me was easier than trying to stuff a bird...

Am I too late to change things with her setup

I've got a first time broody hen, and I'm a first time hatcher with a broody hen. I feel as if I really messed up somehow. The chicks are due to hatch Friday, and here it is Wed. Well, She's pretty much soiled the whole corner of the box that I put in there for her to sit on the eggs, and...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well, I candled at day 10 and again yesterday. On day 10 I found 3 infertile and several with blood rings, so got rid of them. Yesterday one of the three I had left was a quiter, so now I'm down to two. Saw movement in both. So hopefully Friday or Saturday I will have a couple of little...
