Well, mine were all quitters at some point. I candled the last two and no movement and no internal pip. So I bought 6 chicks and tried to sneak them under her and she was having none of that. LOL She just wanted O U T !!! So she's back with the big girls dust bathing and the chicks are in...
Awwwwwwww Thanks for sharing. I'm still waiting for mine to hatch. I honestly think that only one will make it. It will be and EE.
Glad that your girl did such a good job.
I use ashes all year for ammonia control. Plus it keeps many of the pests that need moisture under control as well. The coop will get really dusty, but in the long run, humidity and ammonia smell are controlled better with ash.
I think that it would work fine. Just put your "floors" and dividers in and your good to go. Plus if you need to, you could put it under the roosts with some linoleum on it and it could double as a poop board.
I got mine at Menards. But I suspect that you could get them at Walmart, or any store that carries organization and storing stuff.
I love that you can just hose them out, when they get dirty. Best part is that they come right out, pull them apart and hose them down. These will go in the...
No, just wash them off and they are fine. Sevin doesn't get in their systems it just kills from the outside. Now if you use some of the spot on stuff, I believe you have to withdraw from the eggs.
Here is a picture of and EE egg that is on day 17 Candling from both ends. You have to look really closely, but you can see one large vein that is looped toward the bottom where it gets clear.
Well, she went out for a stroll, so I cleaned it up, and made her a brand new nest, and moved all of the feathers over to it and then set the eggs back in. Managed to get the crate cleaned too. Only took about 10 minutes tops. She's back on the eggs and happy as a bug.
For my EE eggs I had to build a make shift candling box with a fairly bright bulb in it, and then also use an LED Flashlight as well. One on top and one on the bottom.
^^^^^^^
Follow this and you will be fine. I just got done doing my 2nd treatment for the 10 day span and cleaned the coop at the same time.
I used all sevin for everything, from the roosts to the cracks to the birds.
The powder puff application for me was easier than trying to stuff a bird...
I've got a first time broody hen, and I'm a first time hatcher with a broody hen. I feel as if I really messed up somehow.
The chicks are due to hatch Friday, and here it is Wed.
Well, She's pretty much soiled the whole corner of the box that I put in there for her to sit on the eggs, and...
Well, I candled at day 10 and again yesterday. On day 10 I found 3 infertile and several with blood rings, so got rid of them. Yesterday one of the three I had left was a quiter, so now I'm down to two. Saw movement in both. So hopefully Friday or Saturday I will have a couple of little...
Yay, finally! I'm so glad that your patients payed off. Basil is beautiful. Congratulations on a job well done. I don't know if I would have been as patient as you have been.
