Haven't posted in a while, our barnyard mixes are 4 weeks old this week. They are growing like weeds and they have been outside in a heat pad brooder set up.
your welcome! We will quickly outgrow our current brooder by the end of next week. They will be one week tomorrow and Thursday! I have already been able to sex some of the chicks as their wing feathers come in look like three for sure. Anyway, we have no space indoor for them so this solves my...
Hi guys, I thought I would share this link to this thread. It eliminates the need for a heat lamp in the brooder. I will be moving our babies to their new coop and run in a little over a week using this method and wanted to share...
OMG! I need to make sure and not use the term "dub" then because that is not what I meant at all. a What a horrible industry practice, well that is just one of them. Thanks for clarifying.
Hi,
So just wantd to stop in and post some baby pics, we hatched 16 from our flock and sadly one passed, but she was too tiny. So we have a Fiesty Fifteen as I have dubbed them, they already have learned to drink and eat by themselves so they are off and running.
Well yesterday was a marathon day, it began at 5 am. When I went to bed Tuesday night we had one pip and woke up to 12 pips and one unzipping. We had hatches in waves yesterday, the first 8 moved pretty quickly once they got going. Then we rounded out the day with 4 more. The first pip ended up...
It is still stuck but is most of the way out and is moving around the bator now. I have just been giving it time. It's head is out just the rear still stuck to shell. I just pulled most of it off of it. Still has a little bit stuck but it's legs and head are all free now.
Been zipping since am, pipped at 4:18pm yesterday and yes themembrane looks a little dry. The chick is still moving.
Ok so here we are with three chicks now! The original one that pipped is still working. Three of the brown eggs have hatched. I move them into the second bator as they were...
So how is it looking? I am a little concerned as the zip is headed down towards the bottom instead of up, maybe this is what they do? I am a nervous wreck!
hi,
Woke up to 12 pips this am, no hatches yet. Peeping now can be heard from the bator. The first pip is getting more serious now and is unzipping and making a bigger hole. We are at day 21 today.
Our alpha female has taken up hatch watch with me.
First pip making a larger hole.
I know I said something about your two on the Colorado thread, but boy are they cute and man that little man has very obvious comb already. Can't wait to see what they look like, maybe down the road we cn exchange some hatching egg. Ours might not be enough punk rock band look for your tastes...
