Looks like two cockerels and a pullet to me. Two with much larger combs. I would try to get a picture where their crest is not wet, so that we can see if their crest is "poofy", "swept back", or if there are "streamers".

    Agreed!

Looks kind of boy-ish to me, but I could be wrong.

Oops, thought you had posted pictures of your other bird Nugget!

Looking boy-ish. A picture of the comb would be helpful.

I would agree based on comb size. Still a little young to tell for sure!

Looks like a pullet. Can you get a better picture of the comb, maybe from the front?
  8. Caitlin_VT

    I would agree with this!
  9. Caitlin_VT

I would guess pullet on this one.

I would guess cockerel, but how old is he/she?

The first is definitely a cockerel and the last two are pullets. Male partridges tend to have more red, and the last two have more female-type coloring. Of the others - not quite sure! If you post pics of their combs it might help. My guess (which definitely could be wrong!) would be: #2...

Natalierose - Too young to sex, wait a few more weeks and post pictures then

Too soon, but I would lean slightly more towards male because of comb.. maybe?! Since it doesn't have much of a crest, this could, however, be normal comb development for both males and females of this breeding.

Also, that is not a Silkie... And not the best picture to get an idea of gender!

At this age, I would second that #2 is a pullet and #1 and #3 are cockerels.

Can you take more pictures of their heads/combs? Straight-on? It is still a little early to tell for sure, but sometimes you can distinguish based on size of comb. Both seem to have the swept-back crest that I tend to associate with males.

I don't think that this is necessarily true for Silkies, but can be a possible indication in other breeds. I usually go by overall appearance (how they hold themselves), comb development, and if their crest is round or slicked back.

That's what I was thinking as well. Usually my partridge cockerels have more red coloration.

OhDear - looks like the Sizzle and the white with purple crest (pic #5) look like cockerels. The blue looks a bit younger than the others!

They look fairly feminine... So hopefully pullets!
