So the first picture with the black/gold hens was a result of the buff over black based whites? Did you use any of those black/gold girls or did you remove them from the breeding program?
I know Buff is a complex color to get correct in the first place, it requires specific melanizers over a...
By my best guess the eggs would be green and the faces would have beards and muffs. I think you may be able to tell the difference.... Just as long as all your AMs have two copies of blue egg gene and two copies of the beards/muffs.
My Ameraucanas aren't flighty or nuts. They are very calm and curious. When I go into their run I have to scoot them away or they will be crowding around to see what I have. They are much friendlier than my EEs.
Some hens aren't good moms. Even within the same breed. I have two Silkies...
I am pretty sure the hatcheries created their own hetero birds even if they started with the homo birds when they crossed in the leghorn for better egg production. Crossing in leghorn again in a future generation to the hetro birds wiped it out in some cases. Sure a lot of clean faced birds...
Hmm.. the light brown ones are definitely Easter Eggers - not Ameraucanas. Chipmunk striped chicks, green legs, wrong colors .. all give them away as not being Ameraucanas.
I wonder if the black ones are the Ameraucanas that some of the Hatcheries have started selling? I saw them in a few...
I believe I said their chicks are black and white. They looked very similar in coloring to the Black Ameraucana chicks. At least the chicks I saw on the ABC website did.
Are these your birds? Do you have any pictures of them growing up? I think they are beautiful.
Please post pictures. I don't think I have ever seen a picture of a real Red Brown Ameraucana. They are very rare.
I am concerned about the gray-green legs though - Ameraucanas must have white skin - not yellow. They should have slate/blue legs by this age... I wonder if you have Easter...
I love broodies and their babies, and someday.. someday I will have the Silvers. Thank you for sharing them - too cute! Nice clean markings on them too.
Why is this a problem? Are you showing the bird? Also, where is the feather? Wing, tail, body???
Usually you can do a, b or c. The only time I wouldn't pull it is if its a blood feather (check the lower shank, if its red leave it in). If it is red and it is bleeding - pull it out.
Do they have access to the run and the coop at all times? Your sq ft would be 52 which is a bit close (optimal is 10 sq ft/bird).. But if they can get away from any tormenters in the coop (fly up to a perch or hide in a nesting box for instance) then they have enough room. If they are going...
Since your rooster is an Easter Egger and not an Ameraucana you can't show him in the poultry division, but I believe you can use him in 4H for showmanship. They don't judge the bird there, only how well he is handled, and how healthy he looks. Your boy looks fine for that.
