well.. final count is in. 5 live chicks out of 12 that went to lockdown. can't say I'm not disappointed! they were shipped eggs with detached air cells, but they looked very good going into lockdown. we had extreme issues with malpositioning. I can only guess that it has to do with shipment...

I think it depends if they are shipped or not. for shipped eggs, I leave them upright, I think it helps them get into position. for non shipped eggs, I lay them on their sides for hatch.

did you weigh them at all? what is your humidity? I think they look ok. they will get a big "dip" in the air cell right before hatch. if you keep candling thru "lockdown" you'll see it grow

yay!! woohoo!! Day 21 here: I woke up to 2 pips! one of them is verrry low on the egg.. it is in a carton.. I might take it out and lay it on it's side if it doesn't progress... there isn't room in the carton for the shell to fall away at all..
