So am I. lol. My one Muscovy raised a pekin baby... when i had my Pekin flock and they were free ranging one the girls must of laid in the scovies nest, we were shocked when that nest hatched to have a Pekin mixed in.
Never tried chickens though... the best broodies here for that are silkies i...
wow mine would die with that "pond" mind you it would be my calls in full force into it lol.
That yard looks fine... mine have eliminated all the grass now so i am nothing but dirt. Dogs, eh.. depends on the dog frankly, my lab stands in the pools with the ducks.
Thanks. Me neither i know who his mother was(not who raised him) she was almost solid black a bit of white on the wings, he has brothers but they have bits of white...
wish i had a female for him but i don't and unfortunately my flock is under attack and is dwindling .... :barnie
LOL! i have a silkie hen who is sitting ontop of an old sex link chocolate i have... sadly, i think she's on silkie eggs, she had a baby the other day but it didn't make it out the egg and from what i can see under her? looks like silkie eggs. oye.
Yeah they all return to the duck area but i toss feed at dusk, they wanna eat? they come in lol. I think with smaller flocks it can be more difficult, i found as my flock grew they have learned return habits better.
Completely depends i also have not found age to be a factor at all. Some will sit on a few others a lot. A duck last year set a clutch of 20 eggs, 19 succeeded. Then in the fall she turned around and sat another 8.
She wasn't that old... she is now 2yrs old.. so did this as a 1yo. I find once...
awe, she's cute! i have a guy we dubbed 'gimpy' he was injured as a duckling, so walks with a limp.. it never healed without some damage sadly. He gets on very well though.. we are just extra cautious to ensure he gets enough food and in safely at night. He's also a black and white!
For sure, i had this gorgeous boy who appeared white but then starting showing blue and caramel trimmings.. sadly, i lost him so never did get to see how much more color would come out.. His grandmother was this beautiful blue with chocolate barring.. so i wasn't entirely surprised by his...
First one def looks like a girl, second one does too.. basically it's all size, grace... girls are agile.. the boys are kinda all leg, and clumsy. lol. For myself if i am wanting to see a color, i wait though for me ratios don't matter i have so many now... it's really academic whether they are...
While I am at some of my buff and scovies x's total shock this even worked .. They have great color but are just odd u know some fly??
You can see one original buff in this pic too,I have two pure BO they paired nested and raised 10 babies! And no I am never doing this again, total lark they...
Grabbed a pic of one of my earlier this years chocolate drakes took years to finally get a drake and now I have 3 or 4 lol too many to count these days... Typical b&w in there too..
never incubated a thing before, only through my birds but can comment on the mixed part, i do have some buff orpington & Muscovy crosses.. they are quite the bird lol pretty to look at, some fly some don't... it's a mixed bag on what you get in the end.
