I have a mixed project pen that has Mille Fleur Cochins, SQ Mottled Cochins, and some Buff Brahmas. Oh and a frizzle.
Some will hatch pure mille fleur, and any others that hatch with be the genetics needed to create or improve it.
I never intended to sell them as Cochins. I know they are not...
I said project birds. I never got mille fleur cochins to actually breed cochins.
Note I said to create. Brahmas are much better suited for my climate.
I should put an or instead of and between create OR improve.
Sorry if that didn't come out right.

BEAUTIFUL birds MSbear. Lucky you.
Update on my Mille Fleur.
Out of my first hatch. I have one pair. A really nice hen, and a plain red rooster. Barely or any mottling. They are really small. I hope they grow some more. Around 5 months old.
2nd hatch 3 hatched. One stayed out in the rain...
I am also going to be doing Mottled/Buff Columbian crossings, and line breeding for type. My birds are all still growing out right now though.
I love the type on them though. So I think I may show them next month.
I have a question? I know for shows a cockeral is under a year. But would it be...
Oh gosh! I want him. But really I just can't right now. Darn. He is
I have my Pair outside, then 3 babies in the brooder right now.
I am also going to mix my own Buff Columbians, and Black/Blue Mottled. So we shall see how that goes.
Now out to take some much needed pictures of my flock.
So what projects is everyone working on? I know we are all trying for a better Mille Fleur but any other people out there up for a challenge and trying their hand at something else?
I wasn't going to share my master plan, but I might as well.
I'm working on Mille Fleur Brahma Bantams, and LF...
Two of my babies are out. And they look completely different then all my last ones. My other batch were all chipmunk striped. One is blonde, and the other is redish/brown. So looking forward to seeing the differences.
The other is pipping.
And my 4 other mutt eggs are pipping too.
Oh and of...
Two of my three eggs have a small pip. They aren't due until tomorrow. Of course 3 little chickies isn't enough to keep them warm. So I will be making a trip to the feed store to pick up some chicks that they got in today.
Actually I was born and raised about 5 miles down the road. Yes I've lived here my entire life. But that still don't mean I have to enjoy the weather. Actually it was 70 degrees this week last year. But the weather is just funky. I'm just getting tired of the swamp that I have to wade through to...
Once again we are loosing.
Lost my only Blue Silkie hen. She was very very nice, hoping to show her or produce chicks. She was 5-6 months old. She had a poopy butt. So she may have started laying and had some problems interally or something.
Why is it always my expensive animals that I waited...
I had a small lamp in with the youngest babies which are like 4 months old.
But my coops are far to spread out, and away to run heat to them.
In a few years I am moving somwhere warmer.
I lost one of my favorite birds. My only porcelian D'Unncle. But I am thankful the last three mille fleurs are hanging on for now though.
My poor animals. I am SO sick of this weather.
All my birds are hunched and cold.
My goat died from Respitory distress in just a day or two.
It has...
Sorry folks. I haven't been around. Things have been really bad around here.
Both Mille Fleurs are living so far. Stumpy is living too. All are back in with the flock.
I lost my Awesome Show Pygmy Buck. I hadn't even gotten any babies from him yet. It was such a shock. So I'm not much in the...
As I've said several times. They have sulmet in their water. I hope thats all it is really. But I have my doubts. Plus there is no bloody poop.
I'll keep giving it to them and see if it helps.
The vet is out of the question. Not that I don't mind spending money on my birds. But none of the vets around here have any experience with chickens at all. Not for 100's of miles. I am on my own. Most won't even talk to you if you say it's a chicken.
I called the vet to get some Prednisone for...
Everyone is doing the same. My pullet is beautiful! It will be such a loss to loose her.
Here she is. I don't know why her wing is being held funny in this picture. It's not always like that.
