APRIL Hatch-A-Long 2015: PLEASE READ FIRST POST

Got my first egg from our early April chicks (they are barred rocks), can't wait to see what my little Easter Egger mixes come up with in a few weeks... Obviously, the little tiny egg on the left is the first egg ;) (middle is from my Easter Egger, and on the right is from my Rhode Island Red)

My April babies are 8 weeks old today, and someone is "trying" to crow. It is the funniest sound!

My April babies are 4 weeks old now and getting so big, I have not been able to confirm which ones are roosters yet... hard to tell since they are cross breeds. Anyway, my tea cup pictures were a great idea, but now it is really hard to get the photos..but here they are at 4 weeks: The first...

My babies are two weeks old today... it is going to be harder than I thought to get the pictures of them with the tea cups... LOL! But, it's still fun to try! Cindy and her puffy cheeks Goldie Herb Lemon Drop Lucy Lucy (second picture because her face is sooo pretty!) :)

My first hatch has only been over for two days and I'm already trying to figure out how I can make my coop bigger so I can hatch more. I'm afraid this might be very addicting!!!

I think I'm calling rooster on this one.... What y'all think? Either that or a bold hen at less than a day old!

I think what I read before led me to believe it only worked if the hen is a barred breed. So far, I cannot distinguish anything apart from them, aside from two being yellow and 4 are black with yellow accents. In my super positive thinking, I am calling them all "SHE" for now! :)

I wondered if I would be able to tell since I have a barred rooster and RIR hen... I also have the barred rooster and Easter Egger hen mixes. 2 of the Dom/RIR's hatched a golden yellow, 1 hatched black. All 3 of the Dom/EE's hatched black with yellow bellies and yellow accents around face/head.

6/6 hatched! Awesome for my first time hatching. Took all the shells out but left babies in incubator for tonight. Will move them to brooder in the morning. Hopefully that is ok?

I'm a little confused, one of my brown eggs (dominique/rhode island red cross) hatched black, and the other hatched yellow!

Oh my! My first baby is out!!! Took her about an hour from pip to unzip and now out! (I'm calling her a "her" because I have high hopes for hens!) This little one is a cross between a Dominique rooster and an Ameraucana hen. :) Chick pics to come! Soon I hope!

I can hardly handle the excitement. All 6 of my eggs have little cracks (I'm assuming the first pips!). How many hours does it take them to start unzipping typically? We are doing this in my daughter's classroom as a project, and I really hope some of them will hatch during school hours so...
