The comb seems questionable. This was a Half Andalusian/Australorp chick. Both single combed. You can see her area was a "blade" shape. Your chick seems broad.
I live in central Michigan Lolli, mine laid on through this winter. We had a milder winter than the sub zero freeze of the year before. They did far better. They're back to laying almost full strength for 3 weeks now.
My newest upcoming rooster. Interestingly enough for his dad being such a bugger, he is not and hasn't been. He's either 18 or 19 weeks old now. Also going to share a picture of his half brother. Rufus is an absolutely awesome roo. Handles easy, protective of his hens, not kid aggressive either...
My Andalusian and Andalusian cross chicks that descend from my MM stock. These were not really handled birds until they were a month of age when I transferred them to a well trafficked location. The curiosity and friendliness just bloomed. If you spend any amount of time with your birds, this is...
Based off from photos of other hatchery Andi's, I stuck with MM. I liked their size and overall appearance better. Just my opinion though. I had two hens and two roosters. I'm down to one hen. However I have 2 upcoming young roosters, 1 possible rooster, 3 pullets all 2-3 months old that are my...
First one out is Andi/black sex link cross. Looks blue to me. Two more eggs pipped in the night. The Austra's egg and one of the white mystery eggs. That could be Andi, buttercup or hamburg. Gotta go to work for 4.5 hours so I'm happy this is a short day.
I'll share if I get anything out of this. I believe I have 24 eggs in.
It'll be Robin my splash roo crossed on Andalusian, speckled Sussex, black sex link, Australorp, and my largest EE hen. I marked all the eggs I knew that who layed them. There are a few extra possibilities that I grabbed up...
It's probably sad that even though my naughty rooster is very bad, I still like him. He thought he was going to get the jump on me, came running hard and fast. I turned around and he comically about landed on his rear end he was back peddling so fast.
Brought in gorgeous blue miss Millie today...
Lacy, from my experience here in Michigan, having the boys in roosting with the girls makes a difference. Batman didn't start getting any type of frostbite until I had to separate him from the flock. He's currently in the house for now on recovery from other things. I just keep them with a...
Most of your regular members here who are part of this thread have an idea of possible breeders. They likely would be your best help. You might have to travel for eggs or birds though.
Not very happy at all, but for the first time one of my hens flew over into the dog kennel. It was one of my Andi hens. So now I only have 2. My irritation level is on high.
He knows I bring home veggies from work, but he's always been the bird to follow you around just because. Anytime I sit down he's the one to stand next to me.
I've come to a personal conclusion. While I am by far no poultry expert I've noticed a difference between my two roosters. Now that the boys are really coming into their own at 16 weeks I'm thinking Robin in the better bird. I'm very pleased with him. He greets me at the car door almost every...
Had to use that information tonight. The 4 year old had Batman on the run after Batman made an attempt to bully. Hopefully it'll not have to be used that often. As it's my job to keep him safe around horses I'd do the same with the chickens. He's not old enough to understand the subtle signs of...
Actually he's being aggressive towards people. My kid (4), and my grandma went to pet him because he came up to see her and he went after her. :( surprisingly enough the pecking order problems are mild and no more between rooster to rooster than it is rooster to hen or hen to hen. My son was...
