Sorry for my absence there was so much going on................
My DH has been going through some medical issues; the first question from the doctor was "does anyone in your family have stomach cancer?" well that will explain everything and nothing.....
As my father and DH's mother both died...
-21 says the Ramp thermometer! I bet the one on the Chicken Run is colder!
frost over the windows in the Coops
Burrr not sure I am ready for this, but it is Alaska afterall...
15 day old Columbian Rocks hatched here Nov 9th, 2010

I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part with the 4 eggs still in the incubator as there has been no change in them at all.
So this evening I will be checking them out, to see if I can figure out what happened and when.
I still have 4 very cute chicks out of my shipped eggs.
2 of them...
I use both Shavings and hay in the nest boxes I sprinkled the shavings with DE, then add the hay over the top.
Edited to add:
I still hear cheeping in the incubator, so eggs were spritzed with warm water and incubator closed again!
There are now 4 Columbian Rock chicks in the incubator and 4 eggs, they were supposed to hatch yesterday.
so in a couple of hours I will be removing the hatchlings to a warm brooder (taking pictures also) and allowing the eggs another day or two in the incubator.

Good luck Pandora! I'm sorry the backward baby didn't make it.
I do believe that you are the most addicted to hatching of this group.
Bonnie may not be far behind though...
I don't know I took August-October off from hatching......But I did alot of Jan 1 -July 9th.
and now there are 3 harched and I can see 1 more that is piped!
They seem to like the back corner and have moved everything around, so I can't get a good picture.
So I will wait until later or tomorrow before I open the incubator. I will keep you posted!
I am sentimental about all loss of life.
I still have chickens for food, so I don't let it stop me from eating.
Hatching News
2nd Columbian Rock is hatched, we have 6 more to go......
but so far I can't even see any pips
the first one has moved all the eggs, thermometers and humidity...
The one that piped the wrong end didn't make it.
The other one is finally out and has been moving the eggs all around.
There is 1 pip
the other 6 I can see nothing going on.
humidity is low so added more water (syringe & small airhose) and covered 1 vent.
I sure hope the rest hatch today!
Nope nothing new, they still look about the same as the photos I posted earlier!
I really am fighting myself about opening the incubator.
I really want them all to make it.....but it is hard to just watch when I think they need my help! The other 7 have not even pipped yet, so I am trying to...
Neither one has made anymore progress in hours!
I think the piped on the wrong end is gone.... The other one still cheeps and moves
I feel terrible, but I am trying not to open the incubator, the other 7 haven't started pipping yet
2 are Zipping! they are about halfway and 1 already has its toes in the crack! one is zipping the wrong end, luckily I opted to lay them on their sides this time instead of hatching in a modified egg carton, so hopefully it will be ok!
come on chickies!
